Legislative Wrap-Up: March 29, 2010

The New York State Senate Majority passed seven pieces of legislation today including emergency budget appropriations.

S7276 / S7277: These bills enact an emergency spending plan to preserve essential functions of government and protect vital services for the period April 1, 2010 through April 11, 2010.

Senate Unanimously Approves Special Committee Of Inquiry

By unanimous vote, the Senate passed a resolution today approving the Special Committee of Inquiry, chaired by Senator Eric T. Schneiderman,  to investigate the conduct for which Senator Hiram Monserrate was convicted by the State Supreme Court of Queens County. The committee’s first official meeting will be held today at 5:00 PM in Capitol Room 124, open press.

New York Needs a New Way of Budgeting

Every passing day brings a sea of news about economic conditions in the nation and state. We are getting a lot of data, some good and some bad.

While no elected official or the legislature in New York State can control the global economy, there is something we can do: plan our budgeting process so that government runs as efficiently as possible, and protect New York State, and its taxpayers, as much as possible from future financial crises.
