NYCHA Bronx North District Council of Presidents Meeting
Senator Gustavo Rivera (D, WF-Bronx) joined the Bronx North District Council of Presidents as a guest speaker for the last meeting of the year before their summer break. NYCHA Department of Development staff was also on hand to speak to the Bronx North District Council of Presidents, led by Herma Williams, Tenant’s Association President of Pelham Parkway. Senator Rivera spoke of the importance of eating healthy, highlighting the BronxCAN Health Initiative.
“The Bronx continues to be the unhealthiest county in New York state as well as the leading county in obesity," said Senator Rivera. "That is why I am working with community organizations and the Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. to bring attention to provide the resources and the support system needed to develop healthier habits."
Senator Rivera also highlighted the passing of his first bill, S. 5734A, which will allow charitable organizations to post bail for those who cannot afford to do so themselves .
“Many of the individuals who will benefit from this service are productive members of our society that get put in jail because of a stop and frisk or sometimes for being in the wrong place at the wrong time and don’t have enough money to post bail," said Senator Rivera. "Without bail, they could lose their job or be unable to perform important family duties.”
The Senator reminded his constituents that the doors to his office are always open. He stated, “Remember I am your elected official, I work for you.”
