Blood Drive- New Hyde Park

Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) and the Herricks Teachers Association are inviting residents to give the gift of life by participating in a blood drive they are sponsoring on Monday, June 2nd. The blood drive will take place from 2:45 pm to 7:15 pm at the Herricks Community Center (999 Herricks Road, New Hyde Park).

The drive is being organized by the New York Blood Center. Individuals wishing to donate blood must be between the ages of 16-75, weigh at least 110 pounds, be in generally good health, and not have donated blood within the previous 56 days. Individuals over age 75 can participate if they bring a note from their physician. Sixteen year olds must fill out a parental permission form in order to donate blood, which can be obtained by contacting Senator Martins’ office. Anyone wishing to donate blood must bring a photo ID with them; potential donors ages 16, 17, & 18 must also bring proof of age.

One pint of donated blood can save up to three other lives, according to the New York Blood Center.

Appointments to donate blood are available, but walk-ins will be accepted. Residents wishing to make an appointment can call Senator Martins’ office at 516-746-5924.
