Take Your Child To The Library Day

Saturday, February 1, is “Take Your Child to the Library Day!”  Many of the 37 Buffalo & Erie County Public Libraries will be offering family friendly programming, including crafts, games, storytelling and movies.   Library Director Mary Jean Jakubowski said “Saturday will be a perfect day to introduce your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends, etc., to the wonderful world of libraries. And, “Take Your Child to the Library Day” is a terrific opportunity to get children the best present ever, a free library card!”   In 2012, a children's librarian in Waterford, Connecticut, came up with the idea for “Take Your Child to the Library Day” and selected the first Saturday in February as the annual day of celebration. The idea gained popularity immediately, and librarians across the country started planning special events, programs, and displays. This year, nearly 400 libraries nationwide are participating and it is the first year the Buffalo & Erie County Public Libraries will be offering programs centered around this special day.   See more details at:  http://bit.ly/1ehcNC5 or call 858-8900.
