CALLING ALL BROOKLYN SENIORS: SENATOR GOLDEN ANNOUNCES HIS PLANS FOR BROOKLYN’S 6TH SENIOR IDOL

Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn), today is announcing plans for Brooklyn’s 6th Annual Senior Idol, a popular contest that draws upon the talent of the senior citizens of Kings County, to perform before a crowd of Brooklynites so to be named “Brooklyn’s Senior Idol” this Fall. Senator Golden will be hosting the event with the support of Xaverian High School and Chapter #5055 of the AARP.

Brooklyn residents age 50 or older are invited to audition on Saturday, September 8, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at Xaverian High School, 7100 Shore Road (handicapped accessibility available at 71st Street door). Senior citizens trying out for this singing competition should bring a CD or cassette tape accompaniment. A piano is available for any contestant interested and participants are welcome to bring a guitar.

A panel of judges will select 10 contestants from those who audition to compete on stage at the show, in front of family, friends and neighbors scheduled for Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. The winner will be selected through the votes of the audience and the judges. The prize for the winner is $500.

Senator Marty Golden stated, “Every year, Brooklyn’s Senior Idol attracts great talent from our Borough and more and more fans show up to cheer on our contestants at the show. This year, as we begin to plan the 6th Annual, I look forward to another successful event which has come a very popular tradition. So if you can sing, be sure to try out. And if you want to see a great show, be there on October 13th.”

Tickets for the event are $10.00 and can only be purchased at the door, with all proceeds to benefit the Xaverian High School Music Scholarship Fund and to purchase new instruments to support the Xaverian High School music program.
