Senator Jack M. Martins and Senator Charles Fuschillo visited Formed Plastics in Carle Place to hear concerns from a local business. The Senate has made efforts to make New York State more business friendly. The Senators spoke the importance of local businesses to the economy and job creation.

Senator Martins on 'Your Voice': Budget Again Will Not Raise Taxes or Fees

On the Internet show, "Your Voice," Senator Jack M. Martins spoke about the state budget, which again doesn't raise any taxes or fees. In additon, the Senator spoke about the legislation that was recently passed in the Senate to crack down on auto insurance fraud, efforts to rename the Roslyn Viaduct in honor of William Cullen Bryant, supporting local businesses and his participation in the Somos Spring Conference Mock Legislative Session.

Senator Martins Secures Funding for Belmont Park Redevelopment Plan

Study seen as first step in revitalization of Racetrack

Senator Jack M. Martins sent a clear message when state leaders agreed on a new $132.6 billion budget plan that redevelopment of Belmont Park is a priority and the Senator secured $50,000 in funding to prove it.

As part of the state budget, Senator Martins, his Elmont partner in the Senate Dean Skelos and the Long Island Senate delegation were successful in allocating $50,000 in funding through the Empire State Development Corporation toward a plan for the redevelopment of Belmont Park. The goal of the plan is to explore options for the historic park in order to revitalize the area and boost the economy of the local communities by making the park a destination.

Bill Introduced By Senator Martins to Rename Roslyn Viaduct Passes Senate

A bill sponsored by Senator Jack M. Martins to rename the Roslyn Viaduct in honor of William Cullen Bryant has passed the Senate. The inspiration for the bill (S.6240) comes from the community's strong commitment to preserve its history.

Mr. Bryant, a prominent poet and civic leader in the 19th Century, is one of Roslyn’s most famous residents, having served as editor of the New York Evening Post for half a century. Mr. Bryant purchased a country house in Roslyn in 1843, which remained in his family until the 1970s.

Senator Martins Congratulates Swimming Champion Aaron Buissereth

State Senator Jack Martins congratulated Sewanaka Central High School District Swimming Champion Aaron Buissereth on his sensational victories in county meets throughout this swimming season this past week. Buissereth qualified for the Nassau County Championships and has posted some outstanding wins capturing 1st place six times in the 200 freestyle and winning the Metros Silver Championship for the 100 meter breastroke. Aaron is a member of the class of 2014 at Elmont Memorial High School where he is a high achieving student and involved in volunteer activities. "It was a great honor talking to Aaron and hearing about his outstanding acheivement. He trains hard and is an outstanding student.

Senator Martins to Host NYU Dental Van in Port Washington April 21

Senator Jack M. Martins will be hosting the New York University College of Dentistry "Smiling Faces, Going Places" Mobile Dental Care Program to provide oral health screenings to children and adults in the Seventh Senate District on Saturday, April 21 from 11 am to 3 pm at the Roberta Nixon Housing, 72 Harbor Homes, Port Washington, New York 11050.

The dental team will provide oral screenings, which include a general inspection of the mouth. No dental treatment will be rendered. At the conclusion of the screening, each patient will receive a "goodie bag" filled with a new toothbrush, toothpaste and oral healthcare information.

This past week saw the state legislature, Senate and Assembly, work with the Governor to pass significant legislation and reforms in what is being hailed as a week of momentous initiative. Unfortunately, no matter how much was positively accomplished, there will always be special interests that focus on the negatives and attempt to diminish the accomplishments as insufficient to their cause.

The Big Picture

You might be familiar with the tale of the traveler who journeyed through Europe several hundred years ago. He came upon a village where there was a great deal of construction. He walked directly into the activity and asked a stone mason, “Excuse me sir, what’s going on here?” The worker replied curtly, “Can’t you see? I’m cutting stone.” The traveler approached another worker and asked the same question. The second replied, “Can’t you see? I’m preparing a foundation.” The traveler then approached a third laborer with the same question. The third mason paused and looking up at the edifice, replied, “Can’t you see? We’re building a cathedral.”
