Senator Martins Honored by Long Island Contractors' Assocation

Senator Jack M. Martins was recently honored by the Long Island Contractors' Association for his work in the Senate on moving Long Island economy forward. "This was a tremendous honor. I thank LICA for recognizing our efforts in the Senate to move our economy forward and create jobs," he said.

Senator Martins Joins With Community Leaders for Groundbreaking in New Cassel

Senator Jack M. Martins joined with Community Development Corporation of Long Island (CDCLI) and partner Conifer Realty, LLC to host a groundbreaking ceremony for Cathedral Place Apartments – which was awarded state resources through Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s Regional Council initiative to build 36 units of rental housing in New Cassel. Senator Martins not only represents the community, but is also a member of the Long Island Regional Economic Development Council.

Senator Martins to Partner with CVS for Flu Shots

Senator Jack M. Martins will be partnering with CVS to offer flu shots to constitutents during his Health and Wellness Fair, which will take place on Saturday, October 20, from 1-4 p.m. at Carle Place High School, located at 168 Cherry Lane in Carle Place. Constitutents should bring insurance information if they have it. There will be no out-of-pocket cost.

In addition, the Health and Wellness Fair features numerous organizations that will be previding screenings and demonstrations.

Senator Martins Facilitates Meeting With State DOT, Villages

The project to repave Jericho Turnpike is underway and, in an effort to make sure the communities are well informed, Senator Jack M. Martins facilitated a meeting between representatives from the New York State Department of Transportation and the officials from the Villages of New Hyde Park, Floral Park and Bellerose. The project involves the repavement of Jericho Turnpike, which is a state road that hasn't been repaved in quite some time. While workers will strive to impact communities as little as possible, Senator Martins wanted to ensure that the villages would be kept informed concerning the project and its progress.

Senator Martins had also facilitated a meeting some time ago with the Villages of Mineola and Westbury.

Senator Martins Holds Mobile Office Hours in Great Neck

Senator Jack M. Martins met with residents at the Great Neck Library to discuss issues important to the community. Among the issues discussed were hydo-fracking and local zoning. Senator Martins believes strongly in meeting with residents to listen to their questions and concerns. It's why he has scheduled mobile office hours throughout the Seventh Senate District.

Senator Martins Holds Rountable Discussion on Libraries

As a former library trustee, Senator Jack M. Martins has been a staunch supporter of libraries and the services they provide for local communities. Recently, at the Port Washington Library, Senator Martins held at roundtable discussion on issues important to libraries and the challenges they face.

Libraries are facing challenging times in trying to provide public services with limited funding. In this digital age, libraries have become resources for job searches as well as in-depth research projects.

Senator Martins, a former library trustee himself, held the roundtable discussion as a way to raise awareness of the issues facing libraries and the importance of the services they provide for both adults and children.

Senator Martins Participates in Unidad Latina Conference

For the second straight year, Senator Jack M. Martins was an active participant in the New York State Senate Unidad Latina Conference, which brings together hundreds of individuals who represent a cross section of our region’s Hispanic community, including community, business and policy leaders.

Presented by members of the New York State Senate, the conference featured booth exhibits, legislative workshops, networking receptions, a luncheon, roundtable discussions and other activities. A principal goal of this two-day gathering will be to highlight and address issues of concern for Hispanic New Yorkers.

Senator Martins Attends Mineola Street Fair

Senator Jack M. Martins recently attended the 4th Annual Mineola Street Fair. Merchants, community leaders and residents were out in full force as the village's downtown was busy and alive with music. The fair was sponsored by the Mineola Chamber of Commerce and the Village of Mineola.

While at the fair, Senator Martins met up with Mineola Mayor Scott Strauss and Deputy Mayor Paul Pereira. The fair began four years ago when Senator Martins was serving as the Mayor of the Village of Mineola as a way to promote the downtown area and its businesses as well as the many worthwhile community organizations the village is blessed to have.
