Senator Martins Attends Long Island Builders Institute Dinner

Senator Jack M. Martins attended the Long Island Builders Institute meeting to discuss issues important to its members.The Long Island Builders Institute, formed in 1941, is an association of building industry professionals who are dedicated to making Long Island a better place to live and work, by creating a balance between the economy, the environment and development opportunities for all communities and residents.

Tax Cap Confusion

I am sure you can imagine the phone calls and emails my office took this week as homeowners received their school tax statements. As a pretty seasoned public servant, I can tell you that as sure as the moon raises the tides, taxes raise blood pressures.

This time was no different, except people were asking me, “What happened to the tax cap?” In these cases, they knew their school district had voted to keep the budget at the cap, so they were understandably shocked when they received tax increases of much larger rates.

Senator Martins Appears on Interviews That Matter With Raj Mehta

Senator Jack M. Martins recently appears on Interviews That Matter with Raj Mehta, a show that focuses on issues in the community. Senator Martins spoke about how he got involved in governments and his first term in the New York State Senate.

Senator Martins, Mayor Cavallaro Tour Westbury Theater Renovation Site

Senator Jack M. Martins and Westbury Mayor Peter Cavallaro recently toured the site of the Westbury Theater to see the progress being made on the renovation project. Accompanying Senator Martins and Mayor Cavallaro were Andrea Lohneiss of the Empire State Development Corp., former Assemblyman Jerry Kremer and property owner Cyrus Hakakian.

The Westbury Theater is an historically significantly project in Westbury. In was built in the 1920s and was a main attraction in the village for several decades until it was closed in July 2001. It is currently being renovated to include a two-screen art cinema, a multi-purpose event space, a casual theme restaurant and artist studio lofts.

Senator Martins Honored by Long Island Contractors' Assocation

Senator Jack M. Martins was recently honored by the Long Island Contractors' Association for his work in the Senate on moving Long Island economy forward. "This was a tremendous honor. I thank LICA for recognizing our efforts in the Senate to move our economy forward and create jobs," he said.

Senator Martins Joins With Community Leaders for Groundbreaking in New Cassel

Senator Jack M. Martins joined with Community Development Corporation of Long Island (CDCLI) and partner Conifer Realty, LLC to host a groundbreaking ceremony for Cathedral Place Apartments – which was awarded state resources through Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s Regional Council initiative to build 36 units of rental housing in New Cassel. Senator Martins not only represents the community, but is also a member of the Long Island Regional Economic Development Council.

Senator Martins to Partner with CVS for Flu Shots

Senator Jack M. Martins will be partnering with CVS to offer flu shots to constitutents during his Health and Wellness Fair, which will take place on Saturday, October 20, from 1-4 p.m. at Carle Place High School, located at 168 Cherry Lane in Carle Place. Constitutents should bring insurance information if they have it. There will be no out-of-pocket cost.

In addition, the Health and Wellness Fair features numerous organizations that will be previding screenings and demonstrations.

Senator Martins Facilitates Meeting With State DOT, Villages

The project to repave Jericho Turnpike is underway and, in an effort to make sure the communities are well informed, Senator Jack M. Martins facilitated a meeting between representatives from the New York State Department of Transportation and the officials from the Villages of New Hyde Park, Floral Park and Bellerose. The project involves the repavement of Jericho Turnpike, which is a state road that hasn't been repaved in quite some time. While workers will strive to impact communities as little as possible, Senator Martins wanted to ensure that the villages would be kept informed concerning the project and its progress.

Senator Martins had also facilitated a meeting some time ago with the Villages of Mineola and Westbury.

Senator Martins Holds Mobile Office Hours in Great Neck

Senator Jack M. Martins met with residents at the Great Neck Library to discuss issues important to the community. Among the issues discussed were hydo-fracking and local zoning. Senator Martins believes strongly in meeting with residents to listen to their questions and concerns. It's why he has scheduled mobile office hours throughout the Seventh Senate District.
