HEAP applications accepted beginning November 16

HEAP is a federally funded program that provides heating benefits to supplement a household's annual energy cost. HEAP also provides emergency assistance for households in a heat or heat related energy emergency. Additionally, HEAP assists with furnace repairs and/or replacements for households with inoperable heating equipment.

Businesses can apply for ReCharge NY benefits until end of November

The deadine to apply for the ReCharge New York Power Program is 4:00 PM on Wednesday, November 30, 2011.  Up to 100 megawatts will be awarded to small businesses and not-for-profits in the competitive process, for delivery beginning in July 2012.

Senator Maziarz supports DEC plan to permit hydrofracking

As Chairman of the Senate Energy and Telecommunications Committee, I have long been optimistic about drilling for natural gas in the Marcellus Shale through ‘hydrofracking.’  This technology will increase the supply of natural gas available to us all.  We need natural gas to heat our homes, use our appliances, and make everything from steel to plastic to fertilizer to electricity.

Niagara Power Project celebrates its 50th anniversary

Senator George Maziarz spoke at a ceremony today marking the 50th anniversary of the Niagara Power Project in Lewiston.  The facility, which opened in 1961, is the third largest hydroelectric plant in the nation.

Historic "Power NY" plan approved in Legislature

Governor signs net metering bill; announces grants for renewables

A bill meant to ease regulations on farmers and others who at least partially produce their own energy was signed into law by Gov. Andrew Cuomo, according to one of the bill’s sponsors.

The new law, which was pushed by Senate Energy Chair George Maziarz, R-Newfane, Niagara County and Bronx Assemblyman Marcus Crespo, allows for the net metering of energy production happen off site.
