Historic "Power NY" plan approved in Legislature

Senator George Maziarz (R-C, Newfane), Chairman of the Senate Energy and Telecommunications Committee, announced that the State Senate has approved historic legislation (S.5844/A.8510) known as the Power New York Act.  This measure will permanently renew Article X of the Public Service Law, which governs the siting of power generation facilities in New York.  With no state siting regulations in place since the e

Governor signs net metering bill; announces grants for renewables

FROM LOHUD

A bill meant to ease regulations on farmers and others who at least partially produce their own energy was signed into law by Gov. Andrew Cuomo, according to one of the bill’s sponsors.

The new law, which was pushed by Senate Energy Chair George Maziarz, R-Newfane, Niagara County and Bronx Assemblyman Marcus Crespo, allows for the net metering of energy production happen off site.

Statement from Senator Maziarz on Indian Point nuclear safety hearing

The testimony provided at this hearing was invaluable in that it provided a fair and balanced assessment of the security situation at Indian Point, and in my mind demonstrated that the plant is taking the necessary steps to protect both its employees and the surrounding communities.

Senate moves energy policy forward with passage of Article X and remote net metering bills

Senator George Maziarz (R-C, Newfane) announced that two key bills relating to New York’s energy future were approved today in the State Senate: legislation establishing a process for the siting of electric generation facilities (S.191) and legislation to permit remote net metering (S.3407-A).  As Chairman of the Energy and Telecommunications Committee, Senator Maziarz sponsored both bills and helped advance them through his committee.

Sen. Maziarz pushes for Niagara County representative to the Power Authority

Assemblyman John Ceretto and Senator George Maziarz met recently with the governor’s appointment secretary, Judge Leslie Leach, to discuss filling a current vacancy on the New York Power Authority’s (NYPA) Board of Trustees with a Niagara County resident. The meeting was held in the governor’s Capitol office.

Recharge New York program launched in North Tonawanda

Governor Cuomo was joined today by lawmakers in North Tonawanda where he toured Ascension Industries' factory and signed the 'Recharge New York' bill which was approved in the 2011-2012 budget. Ascension is a family-owned business that has employed western New Yorkers for decades. Ascension has been able to take advantage of the Power for Jobs program by receiving low-cost power, making it able to grow to more than 135 employees.
