More oversight of Long Island Power Authority


The New York State Senate today passed legislation (S.2581) to increase accountability and reduce unregulated rate increases by the Long Island Power Authority. The bill, sponsored by Senator Kenneth P. LaValle (R-C-I, Port Jefferson), addresses costly rate hikes of more than 30 percent since 2001 by requiring state Public Service Commission notification and review of certain rate increases of more than 2.5 percent.

"Recharge New York" part of final budget agreement

Senator George Maziarz (R-C, Newfane) is pleased to report that long-term reforms and enhancements to the Power For Jobs program are part of the three-way budget agreement between the Governor, Senate, and Assembly. The budget plan expected to be passed in Albany this week includes provisions for the creation and implementation of the successor program to Power For Jobs, to be known as “Recharge New York.”

"ReCharge NY" power program approved in Senate

The New York State Senate has passed legislation (S.3164), sponsored by Senator George Maziarz (R-C, Newfane), to create a new, permanent program called “Recharge NY,” that would provide low-cost power to help businesses create and retain jobs.

“The passage of this legislation will enable more businesses across New York to access cheap electricity to create jobs,” said Senator George D. Maziarz, Chairman of the Senate Energy and Telecommunications Committee. “The program has been renewed on an annual basis for several years, but we’ve needed a permanent solution so businesses can plot their growth. The passage of this legislation ensures that businesses across New York will have the stability needed to plan long-term.”

Senate pushing Power For Jobs reform
