Senator Martins Congratulates Port Washington's Newest Eagle Scout

Andrew Diffley reached the highest rank a Scout can achieve when he became Port Washington Troop 241’s newest Eagle Scout during an Eagle Court of Honor held on his behalf on Saturday, June 2 at the Flower Hill Hose Company.

Among the elected officials to attend the ceremony were Senator Jack M. Martins and North Hempstead Town Clerk Leslie Gross.

Senate Majority Passes Bill to Eliminate MTA Payroll Tax for All Libraries

Senate Continues Assault on Onerous Tax to Help Taxpayers

Senator Jack M. Martins and the members of the Senate scored another victory for taxpayers by passing a bill to eliminate the MTA Payroll Tax for all libraries in New York State.

Senator Martins vowed to fight to eliminate the MTA Payroll Tax, which was passed in 2009 by the former Senate Majority and former Governor, and has been successful in working with his colleagues and Governor Cuomo in getting the tax eliminated for all small businesses with payrolls of less than $1.25 million and schools, both public and private.

Senator Martins’ bill (S-6079A), which passed the Senate on Monday, June 5, eliminates the tax for all libraries.

Making Memorial Day Count

Another Memorial Day weekend has passed us by, and I was fortunate enough to be included at some of the many parades and ceremonies that paid tribute to the men and women who died serving in our armed forces. Thankfully, I think most of us agree that honoring those who served, living and deceased, is a good and necessary thing. But I also recognize that there are those for whom the meaning of the day has been lost; who see it more as the start of summer than anything else.

Senator Martins on 'Your View' From Albany

On the latest edition of "Your View" from Albany, Senator Jack M. Martins discussed the 100th birthday of Dr. Henry Viscardi and the founding of the Henry Viscardi School, making college more affordable, a biil amending the refund policy for LIRR tickets, the Port Washington School District Enrichment Program, the Pizza and Politics program and being made an honorary graduate of the St. Brigid's Our Lady of Hope School in Westbury.

Senator Martins Inducts American Hero Posthumously Into NYS Senate Veterans Hall of Fame

Sergeant James John Regan always wanted to be an Army Ranger. Upon graduating from Duke University, the Manhasset resident and Chaminade High School grad decided to forgo a job offer from a prominent financial services company and a scholarship to law school in order to serve his country. While in his fourth tour of duty, Sergeant Regan lost his life in Iraq, but his sacrifice and courage will forever endure.

On Tuesday, May 22, Senator Jack M. Martins had the privilege of inducting Sergeant Regan into the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame. Mary Regan, Sergeant Regan’s mother, traveled to Albany to accept the honor.

Senator Martins to Sponsor Safety Saturday in Westbury June 23

Senator Jack M. Martins will be sponsoring Safety Saturday at Westbury High School, 1 Post Road in Old Westbury, on Saturday, June 23 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Residents are all welcome to attend to take advantage of the services offered.

Safety Saturday will include:

Shed the Meds – Anyone that needs to dispose of prescription drugs can bring them and they will be properly disposed of by the Nassau County Police Department.

Car Seat Safety Check – New York State Troopers will be on-hand to check to make sure your child car seat is properly installed so that your child receives maximum protection.

Senator Martins Congratulates Newest Eagle Scouts From Herricks

Senator Jack M. Martins recently attended an Eagle Court of Honor as Christopher Farrell, Christopher Trietsch and David Vespe of Boy Scout Troop 201 of Herricks reached the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank an Boy Scout can reach. Becoming an eagle Scout is a tremendous accomplishment as it takes years of hard work and perseverance. Senator Martins joined with Nassau County Clerk Maureen O'Connell, Nassau County Legislator Richard Nicolello and Williston Park Mayor Paul Ehrbar in congratulating these fine young men.

Senator Martins Attends Grand Opening of Stannards Brook Park

Senator Jack M. Martins attended the grand opening of Stannards Brook Park in Port Washington. The main entrance is on Carlton Avenue at Charles Street. The park was renovated with funding, in part, from the New York State Environmental Protection Fund. The renovation included newly paved paths, newly constructed bridges as well as a bubbling stream, Council Circle and Amphitheater.

Senator Martins Tours Progress on East Side Access Project

On a recent Friday, Senator Jack M. Martins took a tour of the East Side Access Project, where he saw first-hand the progress being made on the massive capital project that entails excavating and building tunnels that will bring the Long Island Railroad (LIRR) into Grand Central.
