MARTINS SUPPORTS ELMONT DAD'S CLUB CAR WASH FUNDRAISER AT COVERT AVENUE SCHOOL

State Senator Jack Martins dropped by the Elmont Dad's Club annual Car Wash Fundraiser. Both Dutch Broadway and Covert Avenue hosts the car wash where hundreds of residents line up and are given service with a smile by members of the Dad's Club, students and members of the Elmont Memorial High School Key Club. MARTINS AND MANGANO CONGRATULATE GRAND MARSHAL OF BELMONT STAKES PARADE

State Senator Jack Martins and County Executive Ed Mangano congratulated Claudine Hall, President of the Jamaica Square Improvement League, on being selected as the Grand Marshall of the Belmont Stakes Parade. In addition to her civic and community activities, Claudine was the founder of the Elmont Chapter of the NAACP and a recipient of Senator Martins' Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Award in 2012.

MARTINS MARCHES IN BELMONT DAY PARADE IN ELMONT

State Senator Jack M. Martins marched in the Belmont Day Parade in Elmont this past week. The annual parade marches down Hempstead Turnpike and celebrates the Belmont Stakes Parade. Marching with Senator Martins were Supervisor Kate Murray, Principal John Capozzi of Elmont Memorial High School, Supt. Ralph Ferrie and residents of the Elmont community.

SENATOR MARTINS NAMED HONORARY MEMBER OF MINEOLA GOLDEN AGE CLUB

During the 45th anniversary celebration of the Mineola Golden Age Club, held at Chateau Briand in Carle Place, Senator Jack M. Martins was honored to have been made an honorary member of the club by club president Lillian Barnola. Senator Martins attended many of the club's meeting when he served as Mayor of the Village of Mineola. Now, as Senator, he is an honorary member, which is no small recognition, considering the Mineola Golden Age Club is comprised of the esteemed seniors of the community who helped build the village into the wonderful community it is today. The club has a rich tradition and stays active through its meetings, activities, classes and trips. Senator Martins thanks club president Barnola and all the members for this prestigious honor.

SENATE PASSES MARTINS BILL TO GET UNLICENSED DRIVERS OFF OUR ROADS

Senator Jack Martins (R-C-I, Mineola) today announced the State Senate has passed legislation (S.4786-A) he sponsored that will significantly increase the penalties for anyone caught driving without a legal driver’s license.

MARTINS BILL RESOLVING CONFLICT OF LOCAL BUDGET HEARINGS WITH ROSH HASHANA PASSES SENATE

Proceedings Fall on Same Day As High Holy Day This Year

Senator Jack M. Martins (R-C-I, Mineola) today announced that legislation (S.5609) he sponsors to resolve the conflict of Rosh Hashana falling on the same day that local special district commissioners are required to hold their public budget hearings this year has passed the Senate.

By law, a special district’s annual public budget hearing must be held the first Thursday after the first Tuesday in September each year. It just so happens that this year, that date is September 5th, the same day as Rosh Hashana. The legislation sponsored by Senator Martins will allow these hearings to be held one week later on September 12th.

Slow and Steady

In Aesop’s fable, the Tortoise and the Hare we learn, “slow and steady wins the race.” Truthfully, many of us probably learned this first from an overconfident Bugs Bunny who challenged Cecil Turtle to a footrace. Who can forget his look-alike cousins who help the slow-talking tortoise outwit Bugs to win the race?

There’s something to be said about enlisting the help of others to steadily accomplish goals and this is true of my effort to protect Long Island’s drinking water. That’s why I’ve introduced legislation to create the Long Island Aquifer Commission.

The New York State Senate passed 14 regulatory reform bills today as the first part of a major initiative, that includes statewide public forums, to identify and eliminate thousands of costly and unnecessary government regulations that inhibit job creation and drive up local property taxes.

SENATOR MARTINS ATTENDS MINEOLA GOLDEN AGE CLUB 45TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

New York State Senator Jack M. Martins recently attended the Mineola Golden Age Club's 45th anniversary celebration and Chateau Briand in Carl Place. The Mineola Golden Age Club is truly an amazing organization that displays the talents of the Mineola's senior community. The club participates in numerous activies as the members have shared a comraderie and special bond they bring with them from the Mineola Community Center, where they regularly meet, to the casinos of Atlantic City, where the club sometimes travels to for trips.

SENATOR MARTINS ATTENDS BASKETBALL AWARDS CEREMONY AT HENRY VISCARDI SCHOOL

New York State Senator Jack M. Martins recently attended the awards ceremony for the Henry Viscardi School Basketball Team. Senator Martins was extremely proud to be given the opportunity to recognize the oustanding accomplishments of the members of the team as well as their coach, Joe Slaninka.

Three years ago, Senator Martins invited the team to participate in his annual 3-on-3 tournament that takes place at the Dutch Braodway School in Elmont. This year will be no exception. The Viscardi team will be ready to go on July 13 when the 10th annual tournament takes place. It has become a midsummer tradition and Senator Martins is honored that the students, staff and parents of the Henry Viscardi School family participate.
