The FEMA application deadline for disaster assistance has been extended until January 28th, 2013 for affected areas including Nassau County. The federal disaster assistance for families and individuals can help resolve many disaster-related problems which are not covered under insurance. Senator Martins Helps Girl Scouts Receive Government Badge

At the Center Street School in the Herricks School District, Senator Jack M. Martins spoke to the members of the Girl Scout Troop 1501 as part of their requirement for their government badge. Senator Martins hosted a lively an interactive discussion during which the girls gave their ideas for new laws. The girls also asked Senator Martins questions about his job and about how he became a Senator.

"It was an honor to speak to the troop. They were a great group that is part of a great organization. I commend their parents and troop leaders," Senator Martins said.

Senator Martins Appointed to Senate Bi-Partisan Task Force on Hurricane Sandy Recovery

Senator Jack M. Martins was among 10 Senators appointed to the New York State Senate Bi-Partisan Task Force on Hurricane Sandy Recovery. The task force was announced during a press conference held on December 10 at a warming center in Rockaway Beach after the Senators toured a neighborhood ravaged by the hurricane, which hit the region late October.

Senator Martins Listens to Jamaica Square Homeowners

State Senator Jack Martins was introduced to Jamaica Square homeowners by Civic President Claudine Hall during the annual JSIL community day. The Jamaica Square Improvement League has a long rich history of community outreach and programming for families. The credo of the civic organization is helping their fellow neighbors and empowering the greater community. Senator Martins is pictured talking to homeowners with Hall and South Floral Park Trustee Elton McCabe during a meet and greet recently. "I want to thank Claudine Hall and the Jamaica Square Improvement for their hard work in improving quality of life for Elmont's neighborhood," said Senator Martins adding, "they make a difference."

Senator Martins Attends Residents For a More Beautiful Port Washington Annual Meeting

Senator Jack M. Martins had the honor of attending the Residents For a More Beautiful Port Washington 45th Annual Meeting at the Port Washington Library. The theme of the meeting was expanding the environmental education in the Port Washington Schools and the community at-large.

Among the elected officials attending were Senator Martins, Town of North Hempstead Councilwoman Dina DeGiogio and Nassau County Legislator Judy Bosworth.

Senator Jack M. Martins recently wished Elizabeth Buchta a happy 93rd birthday. Elizabeth was born on December 14, 1919. A week before her birthday, she attended the Mineola Golden Age Holiday Party where she celebrated the holiday season with her many friends. Happy Birthday, Elizabeth!

Senator Martins Celebrates Holidays with Mineola Golden Age Club

Senator Jack M. Martins attended the Mineola Golden Age Holiday Party at the Chateau Briand in Carle Place, where he met with many friends. Senator Martins was honored to have been invited to the party, where he wished all the members a happy holiday. The Mineola Golden Age Club members danced, sang and had a delicious lunch as they reveled in the holiday spirit. Senator Martins was honored to be a part of the day. Also attending was Mineola's oustanding Mayor, Scott Strauss, who sat and spoke with the members to wish them all the best this holiday season.

Senator Martins Meets With South Floral Park Civic Leaders

State Senator Jack Martins was back in the Village of South Floral Park where he met with civic leaders and members of the South Floral Park Fire Department recently. Mayor Geoffrey Prime attended both sessions with Senator Martins where both answered questions and offered insights on issues impacting the Village. Questions ranging from police protection, job creation and economic development plans on Hempstead Turnpike were discussed. “I want to thank Tony Barbieri, Mayor Prime and the South Floral Park Fire Department for their advice on and insight on issues impacting the Village of South Floral Park," said Senator Martins adding, “I look forward to continuing to work with them going forward in improving our neighborhoods.”
