On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, the Village of Williston Park held its annual street fair. Numerous businesses lined Jericho Turnpike as residents and community leaders enjoyed all Williston Park has to offer. Senator Martins attended the fair and met with numerous residents and leaders of the Williston Park community.

Senator Martins Meet Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush at Hofstra University

Senator Jack M. Martins recently met with former Florida Governor Jeb Bush at a legislative breakfast at Hofstra University. Governor Bush discussed issues facing the states as well as the nation as a whole. For Senator Martins, it was interesting to get Governor Bush's perspective on issues he faced in Florida.

Senator Martins has been holding mobile office hours around the 7th Senate District as a way of bringing his office directly into the community and making himself accessible to the residents.

Senator Martins Reaches Out to Read

Participates in Program That Encourages Medical Professionals to Promote Reading

Senator Jack M. Martins was the guest reader at Winthrop Pediatric Associates on a recent morning as part of the Reach Out and Read Program. The program encourages medical professionals to promote reading to children. The program is utilized at four locations in the Seventh Senate District – Winthrop, Cohen’s Children’s Medical Center of NY in Lake Success, The Steven and Alexandra Cohen Children’s Medical Center of NY in New Hyde Park and Port Pediatrics in Port Washington.

Senator Martins Honored by Nassau County Village Officials Association

Senator Jack M. Martins along with his colleague, Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel, was recently honored for his support of village government by the Nassau County Village Officials Association. Senator Martins, a former village mayor, believes strongly that village government is the most efficient government there is in terms of being accessible to residents and providing services in the most cost effective manner.

Senator Martins is currently the chair of the Senate Standing Committee on Local Government and has passed legislation during his first term in the Senate. He is planning on introducing legislation that will flatten pension rate contributions of local governments, giving them stability when it comes to budgeting for employee pensions.

Senator Martins: Lessons of 9/11

So it’s the 11th anniversary of 9/11 and I couldn’t help but reflect on how different things are. After that horrible day, we couldn’t have been prouder to be Americans. Not only did everyday people from every background come together, but even our political parties seemed unified in purpose. Of course, different ideologies still existed, but adversity made one thing clear: we were Americans first. I’d go so far as to say that from terrible tragedy came a genuine appreciation for each other.

Jamaica Square Block Party Community Day

Senator Jack Martins dropped by the Jamaica Square Iprovement League Block Party this past Saturday where residents from Jamaica Square and South Floral Park packed the street and enjoyed great food and fun. Pictured with Senator Martins are South Floral Park Civic Association President Anthony Barbieri, Jamaica Square Improvement League President Claudine Hall, Elmont Coalition Chair Sandra Smith, former Elmont Library Board President Tania Lawes and block party goers. "The block party was truly a family affair with everyone having a great time and enjoying the games, food and camaraderie. My thanks go to Claudine Hall and all the volunteers who made this day such a great success," said Senator Martins.

Senator Martins Hosts Mobile Office Hours at Hillside Library

In an effort to make it more convenient for constituents to discuss issues and concerns, Senator Jack M. Martins held mobile office hours on Thursday, September 6 at the Hillside Library in New Hyde Park.

Senator Martins has scheduled other mobile office hours throughout the district through September and October. As always, constituents are welcome to call his District Office for assistance at 746-5924. Mobile office hours are as follows:

Port Washington - Saturday September 22nd, 2pm-4pm at the Port Washington Library 1 Library Drive, Port Washington

Hicksville - Saturday, September 22, 5 p.m. at India Pentecostal Assembly, 343 Jerusalem Avenue, Hicksville

Senator Martins Holds Local Governments Roundtable With Village Mayors

State Senator Jack M. Martins, chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Local Government, held a roundtable discussion with some of the esteemed mayors villages within the Seventh Senate District to discuss important issues facing local governments. The panelists included Village of Great Neck Mayor Ralph Kreitzman, who is also the President of the Nassau County Village Officials Association, Village of Kensington Mayor Susan Lopatkin, who is also the President of the Great Neck Village Officials Association, Westbury Mayor Peter Cavallaro and Mineola Mayor Scott Strauss as well as New York Conference of Mayors Deputy Director Barbara Van Epps.
