SENATE TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE APPROVES LEGISLATION TO STRENGTHEN LEANDRA’S LAW

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick), Chairman of the Senate’s Transportation Committee, today announced that the Committee has approved legislation to strengthen Leandra’s Law. The legislation would make it harder for offenders to avoid using ignition interlocks as required by Leandra’s Law.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO & ASSEMBLYMAN WISNIEWSKI TO HOLD JOINT PUBLIC HEARING EXAMINING PORT AUTHORITY’S FINANCES & LACK OF ACCOUNTABILITY

     New York State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) and New Jersey State Assemblyman John S. Wisniewski (D-Sayreville) today announced plans to hold a joint public hearing on the Port Authority’s finances and lack of accountability.  The hearing will be held jointly by the New York State Senate’s Transportation Committee and the New Jersey General Assembly’s Committee on Transportation, Public Works, and Independent Authorities.

     The hearing, which will be held on Friday, April 20th at 10:30 am at the Center for the Arts at the College of Staten Island, will examine the Authority’s spending practices and financial management, as well as ways to make the Authority more accountable and transparent.

SENATE TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE APPROVES LEGISLATION TO PERMANENTLY REVOKE DRIVER’S LICENSES OF PERSISTENT DUI OFFENDERS

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick), Chairman of the Senate’s Transportation Committee, today announced that the Committee has passed legislation to permanently revoke the driver’s licenses of persistent drunk driving offenders.

     “Driving is a privilege, not a right. No one with eight or nine DUI convictions should be handed a driver’s license, but that’s happening right now under current law. This legislation would change that and ensure that individuals who continually drive under the influence will lose their licenses for good,” said Senator Fuschillo.
