From the Staten Island Advance:

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Did you know that state law requires that a child under the age of 8 and under the height of 4-foot-9 must use a booster seat?

When should a child be changed from a rear-facing position to forward-facing? At what weight should a child start using a booster seat?

Learn about the safety guidelines for children's car seats and the state requirements at an informational session being held at Richmond University Medical Center on Tuesday from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Officials from the hospital and the Department of Transportation's Department Safety Education will be on hand to inspect car seats and help educate parents and caregivers about the importance of properly installed child restraints.

For more information and appointments, call Laura Gotlin-Mayes at 718-390-5153 or e-mail lgotlin@dot.nyc.gov.

The hospital is located at 355 Bard Ave., West Brighton. Enter from Castleton and Kissel avenues at the Emergency Department entrance; make the first left into the Villa Parking Lot.
