Brooklyn – State Senator Marty Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn), is announcing plans for Brooklyn’s 7th Annual Senior Idol, a contest that showcases the talent of the senior citizens of Kings County, hoping to be named “Brooklyn’s Senior Idol” this October.
Brooklyn residents age 50 or older are invited to audition on Tuesday, September 24, 2013, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Xaverian High School, 7100 Shore Road (handicapped accessibility available at 71st Street door). Senior citizens trying out for this singing competition should bring a CD or cassette tape accompaniment.
This summer, from June 1st through June 16th, the Sing for Hope Pianos return to our city streets. In one of New York City's most vibrant public art installations, 88 artist-designed pianos (one for each key on a piano) are placed in parks and public spaces throughout the 5 boroughs for anyone and everyone to enjoy.
The Shore Road Parks Conservancy has secured two pianos:
1- Shore Road Park at the 90th St Gazebo
2- Owl's Head Park (68th Street & Colonial Road), next to the Park House
The Shore Road Parks Conservancy is delighted to sponsor the historic Swedish Cottage Marionette Theater production of "Little Red's Hood".
This event will be held on the hillside in Owls Head Park on Saturday, June 8th starting at 11:00 am. It is open to the public and free of charge.
The performance is presented by City Parks Foundation, an organization offering programs throughout NYC parks. City Parks Puppet Mobile, one of the only traveling puppet theaters in the country, brings Swedish Cottage productions and puppet making workshops to all corners of the city, free of charge.

Brooklyn Academy of Music is a wonderful resource for shows and events without having to travel to Manhattan.Local colleges are a good place to look as well, Kingsborough Community College, Brooklyn College and St. Francis College all put on inexpensive shows in our borough. It is not just our colleges providing this opportunity, Poly Prep Country Day School is another place to look.
