Dobbs Ferry Senior Citizen's Back to School Party

(Dobbs Ferry - September 23rd) The Embassy Community Center located in Dobbs Ferry kicked off the Fall season with a "Back-to-School" Party to introduce seniors to upcoming fall classes and special seminars. Various senior groups including Dr. United, Pace Woman’s Justice, Mercy College, Westchester Jewish Family Service, among others came to the party to share information about what's going on in their organizations this season. The Senator took part in the kickoff by greeting seniors and learned one of her 89 year-old constituents is getting married to a childhood sweetheart.

REMINDER: RITCHIE TO HOST “SENIOR HEALTH AND WELLNESS FAIR” WEDNESDAY

State Senator Patty Ritchie is reminding Central New Yorkers she will be hosting her annual “Senior Health and Wellness Fair” Wednesday in Oswego County from 11:00 a.m to 1:00 p.m. at the Fulton Ice Arena, located at 605 West Broadway Street next to the Fulton War Memorial. 

The free event will feature health screenings, wellness tips, lunch prepared by “chefs in training” from Oswego County CiTi, entertainment and more.  Flu shots will be provided, and those interested in receiving a shot are reminded to bring their insurance information. Transportation to the event will be provided by Oswego County Opportunities and a bus schedule can be found here.

Senator Stewart-Cousins was one of the co-sponsors of the VNSNY Choice "Preventing Falls Among Seniors" Seminar which took place on Wednesday, September 17th, at the Coyne Park Community Center in Yonkers. The purpose of the seminar was to provide seniors and their loved ones tips and techniques to stay strong on their feet. Also at the event, and co-sponsors of the seminar, were Mayor Mike Spano, Senator George Latimer, Assemblymember Shelley Mayer, and Assemblymember Gary Pretlow.

RITCHIE ANNOUNCES 2014 SENIOR HEALTH AND WELLNESS FAIRS

New Locations, More Vendors to be Featured

State Senator Patty Ritchie is encouraging seniors in Central and Northern New York to mark their calendars for her annual “Senior Health and Wellness Fairs.” This year’s fairs—which feature new locations for the Oswego and Jefferson County events, as well as more vendors than ever before—will take place in the coming weeks and offer local seniors access to free health checks, flu shots, tips for improving well-being, lunch, entertainment and more.

The first event will take place in Oswego County on September 24th at the Fulton Ice Arena (605 W. BROOKLYN SENIOR STARS TO SHINE – SENATOR GOLDEN TO HOST 8TH ANNUAL SENIOR IDOL

Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn), in partnership with Xaverian High School, today is announcing plans to host Brooklyn’s 8th Annual Senior Idol, a popular contest that draws upon the talent of the senior citizens of Kings County, vying to be crowned “Brooklyn’s Senior Idol” this Fall.

 

Brooklyn residents age 50 or older are invited to register and audition on Monday, September 8, 2014, starting at 4:00 p.m. in the Xaverian High School auditorium, 7100 Shore Road (handicapped accessibility available at 71st Street door). Senior citizens trying out for this singing competition should bring a CD or cassette tape accompaniment. A piano is available for any contestant interested and participants are welcome to bring a guitar.
