STACHOWSKI CALLS FOR HARSHER PUNISHMENT FOR VETERANS’ CEMETERY DESECRATION

      The State Senate has today passed legislation (S.8289) sponsored by Senator William T. Stachowski (D, Lake View) that would create a new crime for cemetery desecration of a veteran cemetery plot, grave or burial place.  The measure would also prohibit anyone from selling veteran commemorative cemetery markers, flag holders, monuments, statues or other physical memorabilia that are over 75 years old if those items are already placed or located within a cemetery.

New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens),  students from the Immaculate Conception School’s Aquinas Honor Society and local civic leaders joined together for the unveiling of a historical marker for Jamaica Estates. The event took place at the location of the plaque at Wexford Terrace and Midland Malls on Friday morning April 23, 2010.

New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens),  students from the Immaculate Conception School’s Aquinas Honor Society and local civic leaders joined together for the unveiling of a historical marker for Jamaica Estates. Padavan provided a $2,000 grant for the historical plaque after the student from the Aquinas Society undertook two years of research into the history and heritage of the Jamaica Estates community.

MOHAWK — It's a financial challenge to refurbish a historic structure.

The Weller Library in Mohawk is no exception, according to library board President Edward View, who said the building is in need of $60,000 for renovations.
