Brodsky, Perkins, and Advocates Urge Governor to Sign Long-Awaited Authorities Reform Bill

Senator Bill Perkins (D-Harlem) and Assemblyman Richard Brodsky (D-Westchester) joined reform advocates to urge Governor Paterson to sign an authorities reform package passed by both houses of the legislature. An authority is a public agency that operates with minimal oversight. The legislation would impose transparency and accountability. The Governor threatened a veto.

Senator Johnson Urges Governor to Sign Unprecedented Public Authority Reform Bill

 

Senator Craig M. Johnson, (D-Nassau), urged Governor Paterson to sign landmark legislation that will bring unprecedented scrutiny and accountability to New York's authority system. 

“These shadow governments that have access to literally billions of taxpayer dollars and currently have the ability to take on new debt with minimal oversight,” Senator Johnson said. “Every year we see new examples of fiscal mismanagement, abuse, and outright scandal that directly stem from the free reign and lack of public accountability that these entities operate under.”

Senate Facilitates Small “Food” Business Growth

Passes grants program for small-scale food processing facilities putting people to work, utilizing NYS products in recipes. (Albany, NY)-The New York State Senate has passed S3594,  legislation that promotes the development of small businesses, particularly those in distressed communities,  by enabling small-scale food processors to apply for funding from the Empire State Economic Development Fund.

New York Senate Passes Good Government Legislation Sponsored by Senator David J. Valesky; Bill Prohibits State Agencies from Making Loans to Employees
