SENATE PASSES 2012-13 BUDGET RESOLUTION

Gallivan: “Senate Plan Cuts Taxes, Reforms Medicaid, Protects Seniors and Schools.”

The New York State Senate voted to approve its 2012-13 Senate Budget resolution, continuing its focus on state spending, job creation, and structural reform to government.

The Senate budget, at just under $132.5 billion, keeps the total state spending increase below two percent, and spends less than the Executive Budget. The budget closes a $2 billion budget deficit and builds on last year’s successes in putting the state’s fiscal house in order.

Statement from Senator Valesky Regarding Syracuse Common Council Passage of Land Bank Legislation

I applaud the Common Council for moving legislation forward to create a city/county land bank. As the author of the state law, I am extremely encouraged that Onondaga County and the city of Syracuse will have the opportunity to be one of the first land banks in the state. Vacant and abandoned housing has been a problem in our communities for too long, and the application of this new strategy is a promising solution.

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) today announced that he is partnering with the New York State Department of Financial Services (DFS) to help provide services to homeowners facing foreclosure.

     Senator Fuschillo has arranged for specialists from DFS to bring the Department’s Mobile Command Center to Marjorie Post Park, located on the corner of Merrick Road and Unqua Road in Massapequa, from 11 am to 7 pm on Friday, March 16th to assist residents in danger of losing their homes.

Senators Peralta and Smith Call For Extending State Foreclosure Prevention Program

Citing the alarmingly large number of families across the state facing foreclosure, State Senators Jose Peralta and Malcolm Smith are urging Governor Andrew Cuomo to fund a program that provides homeowners with counseling, legal assistance and help negotiating with banks.  Launched in 2008, funding for the $25 million Foreclosure Prevention Services Program expires next month.

State Senator Lee Zeldin, Town of Islip Supervisor Thomas Croci and State Assemblyman Phil Ramos will be on hand, Thursday February 9th at 10 AM, to host the New York State Department of Financial Services Superintendent, Benjamin Lawsky, and the Foreclosure Relief Unit, in Brentwood, NY. Senator Eric Adams, Senator Jeffrey Klein and other elected officials held a press conference to call upon the Governor to include funding for foreclosure prevention services in the 2012-2013 budget.  Last year, the budget did not include any funding for foreclosure prevention services.  Many New Yorkers are facing foreclosure on their homes, affecting communities all over the State.

Senator Reverend Ruben Diaz Proposes Legislation to Protect Homeowners from Foreclosure

For Immediate Release

New York State Senator Reverend Ruben Diaz (D-Bronx) has drafted legislation to amend the State’s real property actions and proceedings law to impose stricter requirements on lenders, assignees and mortgage servers by requiring them to submit an affidavit to the court prior to commencing foreclosure proceedings, attesting under oath they own the property being foreclosed. Should they not be able to subsequently prove this during the foreclosure proceedings, they will be guilty of a class E felony. Recently enacted in Nevada, the foreclosure rates declined over 90%.

Senator Lee Zeldin Hosts Home Mortgage Information Seminar for Residents of the 3rd Senate District

Central Islip, N.Y. – Recognizing that many communities within the 3rd Senate District were among the hardest hit by the recent foreclosure crisis, State Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R, C, I- Shirley) hosted a Home Mortgage Informational Seminar this past Wednesday, November 2, 2011, at the Central Islip High School.

Representatives from the Economic Opportunity Council (E.O.C.) of Suffolk County and the Long Island Housing Partnership, Inc., were on hand to provide one-on-one counseling with the many individuals who were in attendance. Presentations were also made on various topics, including the Federal Homes Affordable Act (HAMP) modification loan procedures, short sales, deed in lieu of foreclosure, mortgage redemption, and forbearance.
