News 12 -- Sen. Klein: Neglectful banks putting residents at risk

(08/01/11) THE BRONX - State Sen. Jeffrey Klein warned residents Monday that banks are putting people in danger by neglecting foreclosed homes around the city.Klein released a survey that claims 2,000 bank-owned foreclosed properties in the city have nearly 4,000 open violations. A law was passed in 2009 that requires all banks to keep foreclosed properties up to code.

The lifetime achievements of Brooklyn native Dorothy Burnham were recognized and lauded by NYS Senator Velmanette Montgomery (D-Brooklyn) during the reading of a Senate resolution, which was unanimously passed by the full Senate during the final days of the 2011 Legislative Session. The resolution paid tribute to Dorothy Burnham’s many notable contributions to our public education system, the advancement of civil rights, and to the promotion of racial and economic equality. Ms. Burnham was also honored for her designation as recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award by the New York Friends of the People's World. “Dorothy Burnham is a Renaissance Woman,” said Senator Montgomery.

News 12 Covers Senator Klein and Van Nest Community Welcoming 1st Neighborhood Bank in 20 Years

Bronx, N.Y. -- State Senator Jeffrey D. Klein, (D-Bronx/ Westchester), and Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. proudly joined U.S. Rep. Joseph Crowley and members of the Van Nest community today for the official opening of the first bank in the neighborhood in more than 20 years. The bank, a branch of the Cross County Federal Savings Bank, opened its doors at 791 Morris Park Ave. The absence of a bank has hampered community revitalization efforts and has been a cause of great inconvenience for neighborhood residents who have to travel to other neighborhoods to do their banking.

Northwest Savings Bank Expands to Brighton

On Thursday, April 28th, Senator Robach had the privilege to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the newest Northwest Savings Bank location. The branch, located at 1441 Monroe Ave. in Brighton, opened for business last Thursday and donated $1,000 to Brighton Volunteer Ambulance during the ceremony. Northwest Savings Bank has other locations throughout our area in Greece, Gates, Penfield, and downtown.
