The Senate Democratic Majority passed legislation (S2233-A/Montgomery) which will reform foster care agencies’ current policy of instantly terminating parental rights – of specifically mothers – who are incarcerated, allowing them to clean up their act and retain rightful custody of their children.

As Chairwoman of the New York State Senate Standing Committee on Crime Victims, Crime and Correction, I was disturbed to hear of last Thursday's shooting incident in the downtown Brooklyn Office of the Division of Parole.  It is very alarming that anyone could enter the building without being scanned for a concealed weapon.
