Griffo today announced he will be hosting the Joint Senate Task Force on Heroin and Opioid Addiction in Utica from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the State Office Building, 207 Genesee St. The forum is one of 12 being held throughout the state by the bipartisan task force created to solicit input on the rise in the use of heroin and other opioids in New York and to develop legislative recommendations for treating and preventing addiction and its consequences. SEN. FARLEY ANNOUNCES SENATE BILL CREATES HARSHER PENALTIES FOR METHAMPHETAMINE PRODUCTION

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) recently announced that he and his colleagues in the New York State Senate passed legislation to reduce the number of clandestine methamphetamine laboratories, which pose dangerous threats to public health and safety. The bill (S3639) implements a series of increasingly severe felony offenses to strengthen the criminal penalties for methamphetamine manufacturing and the possession of methamphetamine manufacturing material.

Methamphetamine manufacturing involves the use of highly explosive, flammable and toxic chemicals, and meth labs pose a significant public health and safety threat, especially if they are located in residential neighborhoods.

UTICA>> Heroin and other opioid addiction is on the rise in New York. On Tuesday, the Senate Joint Task Force held a forum at the State Office Building in Utica.

The panel was led by Senator Joe Griffo and Senator Phil Boyle, who is also the chairman of the task force and Senator Dave Valesky. This was the third of 12 sessions throughout the state, which is designed to brainstorm ideas for legislation that they can take to Albany before the current session ends in June.

The Senate Democratic Conference will announce the introduction of six bills to combat the growing heroin epidemic impacting communities throughout New York State.
