Senator Valesky Attends Forum on Heroin and Opioid Abuse

Yesterday, Senator David J. Valesky joined colleagues Senator Joseph Griffo and Senator Phil Boyle in Utica at a forum of the Senate Task Force on Heroin and Opioid Addiction. The task force is examining the rise in use of heroin and other opioids in New York State and will develop recommendations for treating and preventing addiction.

Public Forum on Heroin and Opioid Addiction

I hosted a public forum on heroin and opioid addiction with my colleagues in the State Legislature Senator Phil Boyle and Assemblyman Mark Johns. We heard compelling testimony from drug addiction and prevention experts, law enforcement professionals and families who have been touched by addiction. We are committed to ending this growing problem that has taken countless lives across New York State. My sincere thanks to everyone who shared their stories and to those who attended today.

Senator David J. Valesky joins Senate Task Force on Heroin and Opioid Addiction

SYRACUSE, N.Y.—State Senator David J. Valesky (D-Oneida) today announced that he has joined the Senate Task Force on Heroin and Opioid Addiction to examine the rise in use of heroin and other opioids in New York State and develop recommendations for treating and preventing addiction.

“These drugs are highly addictive and extremely dangerous, and the increase in use that we’re seeing is deeply troubling,” Senator Valesky said. “Action is needed, and through this task force, I am hopeful we can do our part from a legislative perspective.”

Senator Griffo To Hold April 15 Forum on Heroin and Opioid Addiction in Utica

UTICA - Senator Joseph A. Griffo today announced he will be hosting the Joint Senate Task Force on Heroin and Opioid Addiction in Utica from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the State Office Building, 207 Genesee St.

The forum is one of 12 being held throughout the state by the bipartisan task force created to solicit input on the rise in the use of heroin and other opioids in New York and to develop legislative recommendations for treating and preventing addiction and its consequences.

The forum will include members of the task force, experts in the fields of education, law enforcement, mental health and substance abuse and municipal officials.

Senate Majority Coalition Announces Joint Task Force On Heroin And Opioid Addiction

Senate Majority Coalition Co-Leaders Dean Skelos and Jeffrey Klein today announced the creation of the Senate Task Force on Heroin and Opioid Addiction to examine the rise in use of heroin and other opioids in New York State and develop recommendations for treating and preventing addiction.The bipartisan task force will be chaired by Senator Phil Boyle (R-C-I, Suffolk County), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse.

JOINT SENATE TASK FORCE ON HEROIN AND OPIOID ADDICTION ANNOUNCES SCHEDULE FOR FORUMS TO BE HELD STATEWIDE

The New York State Senate Majority Coalition today announced the schedule for the Joint Senate Task Force on Heroin and Opioid Addiction.

The forums will be held statewide to solicit input on the rise in the use of heroin and opioids and to develop legislative recommendations for treating and preventing addiction and its consequences. The first forum is being held this Tuesday, April 8, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Van Nostrand Theatre of Suffolk County Community College’s Brentwood Campus, 1001 Crooked Hill Road, Brentwood. Senator Carlucci Passes bill to Help Prevent Overdose Deaths

ALBANY- The New York State Senate today passed legislation to help save lives by increasing access to a highly effective antidote for accidental drug overdose known as Naloxone or Narcan. The bill (S6477B), allows authorized health care professionals to issue non-patient specific orders for Naloxone to certified training programs and pharmacies, which could then distribute the Naloxone kits and instruct how to properly administer it.
