Strengthen Domestic Violence Laws

According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, 1 out of every 4 women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime, and there are more than 400,000 domestic violence incidents in New York state each year.  In addition, fifty percent of all women murdered in New York State are killed as a result of domestic violence.

SEN. FARLEY AND REPUBLICAN COLLEAGUES UNVEIL DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ACT OF 2010

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) and fellow Senate Republicans today joined Richmond County District Attorney Dan Donovan in Albany to unveil the Domestic Violence Act of 2010, a comprehensive effort to strengthen the State’ porous and ineffective domestic violence laws.

The initiative would also create a specific crime of domestic abuse in the State penal law and provide law enforcement with greater tools to stamp out domestic violence.

Senate Passes Bill To Make Communities Safer from Sexual Predators

Today, the New York State Senate voted to make our communities safer by passing Senate Bill 2923 which would require the Division of Criminal Justice Services to update sex offender information to victims, their families and the community if an offender is in violation of registration requirements.

Zero-Tolerance of Violence

      As a man who deeply loves and respects my wife of over 30 years and as a grandfather with ten grandchildren, I have worked hard to build a world free of violence, a world that respects women and protects our most vulnerable populations. I have fought hate crimes in my district, provided help to victims of violent crimes, sponsored last month's March for Peace Against Gun and Youth Violence, and proposed legislation to classify violence against women as hate crimes (S.2788).

Padavan, Golden, Lanza Call For Stronger Laws To Protect Women From Abusers

Three New York City State Senators today called for stronger laws to protect women from abusers in the wake of the gruesome murder of a Flushing, Queens woman who had filed at least five orders of protection against her murderer, Huang Chen, before he killed her.  In 2006, the suspected murderer spent 30 days in jail for choking and punching the same woman in the face.
