Senator Maziarz sponsors free small business seminar at NCCC on May 19

Senator George D. Maziarz (R-C, Newfane) is pleased to announce that he will be hosting his free annual Small Business Development Seminar on Thursday, May 19th from 7:00 PM-9:00 PM at Niagara County Community College, 3111 Saunders Settlement Road, Sanborn.  Registration, refreshments, and exhibits begin at 6:30 PM outside of the G Building Cafeteria.

IDC Report Shows $391 Million Positive Impact for Marriage Equality

The Independent Democratic Conference today reaffirmed its support for marriage equality and released a report showing that New York State stands to generate some $391 million in increased economic activity, revenue, and savings during the three years after it is made law.

Senator Martins Welcomes 'The Shop' to Elmont

Senator Jack M. Martins welcomed "The Shop" Barbershop to Elmont this past week! Lifelong local residents Carl Achille and Paul Graziuso opened their new "family friendly" shop on Hempstead Turnpike near Valencia Gym and King Umberto Restaurant. Joining Senator Martins in welcoming the new store was Elmont Chamber of Commerce member Muzzio Talini.

Achille and Graziuso are lifelong residents of Elmont and graduates of Gotham Avenue, Dutch Broadway and Elmont Memorial High School. Achille also served in the armed forces overseas and is an active member of the VFW.

Senator Martins Cuts Ribbon For Mineola Diner Grand Opening

On Friday, April 22, New York State Senator Jack M. Martins helped cut the ribbon, signifying the opening of the historic Mineola Diner, which was built in 1948. Senator Martins joined with owners Michael Alpert and Shane Fritsche as he wished them success in making the diner an important part of the community.

Senator Martins stated that "Diners have played an important part in Americana and since 1948, the Mineola Diner has been a integral part of this community. We are thankful to its new owners Michael Alpert and Shane Fritsche for investing in this historical diner and helping keep this community in-touch with its past."

The diner is located at 138 Jericho Turnpike on the corner of Willis Avenue.

Seward Toasts Small Business Milestone

MILFORD, 04/25/11 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) toured the Cooperstown Brewing company recently to celebrate the bottling of the brewery’s five-millionth bottle of beer.

“The Cooperstown Brewing Company is a testament to what a small business can accomplish in upstate New York,” said Senator Seward.  “I have been pleased to offer my support when possible and look forward to the company’s continued success.”

Bloomberg Rails Against Government’s Attempted ‘Power’ Play

CBS 2 posted on its website an article about the increased rates for electricty in New York City, which was passed by the federal government. The article includes my response to this hike.

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — It’s an electric bill shocker for New York City residents.

In a stunning move, the federal government granted a windfall $1.5 billion increase to the companies that produce electricity, sending bills soaring for the next three summers.

A furious Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Friday the hefty hike is unwarranted and that he is trying to appeal, reports CBS 2’s Marcia Kramer.

Skelos, Ball meet with Business Leaders: MTA, Property Taxes and Hostile Business Climate Top Concerns

ALBANY, NY (March 23, 2011) –Senator Greg Ball (R, C—Westchester/Putnam/Dutchess) and Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos (R, C—Nassau) met with over 30 members of The Business Council of Westchester yesterday, as part of the group’s annual summit in Albany.The Senators spoke with the council on a variety of pressing issues facing the business community including, MTA Tax, property taxes, state spending, Medicaid, business development, deregulation, and ways to create a more friendly business environment.“It is imperative that we work with the business community to include provisions for job creation in this year’s budget. Good News on Horizon: Business, Technology and Academic Partnerships Will Drive Economy, Create Jobs. Two Projects to Launch, Council Planned.

As the state wrestles with passing an on-time budget, marked by painful cuts to close a $10 billion budget gap,  Long Island could be getting good news this Spring when two components in New York State Senator Kenneth P. LaValle’s Innovation Highway are set to get underway.

LaValle says that the engine to drive the creation of new jobs and boost the economy is right in our backyard. “This Spring,” LaValle said, “two projects, The Stony Brook University Incubator at Calverton and The Advanced Energy Research and Technology Center are scheduled to bloom.” The projects are part of LaValle’s Innovation Highway – a tech corridor stretching from The Stony Brook University Incubator at Calverton to North Shore Hospital in Manhasset .

New York State Pollution Prevention Institute Honors Utica-Area Manufacturer

TECT Power receives Pollution Prevention Achievement Award

 The New York State Pollution Prevention Institute, housed at Rochester Institute of Technology, awarded its 2011 Pollution Prevention Achievement Award to TECT Power, a subsidiary of TECT Corp. an international aerospace components manufacturer. The award was presented today during a ceremony at the company’s production facility, 2 Halsey Road, in Whitesboro, N.Y.

TECT Power was recognized for its efforts to reduce the use of hazardous chemicals in its production processes.
