Senator O'Brien discusses development of wine tourism industry

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Senator Ted O’Brien was today joined by representatives of local wineries and tourism organizations to call for increased state efforts to support the growing wine and wine tourism industries in the Finger Lakes region. The Senator noted that these industries provide essential jobs and economic growth for upstate New York.

“The wine tourism industry has an enormous impact on our state economy, providing almost $4 billion a year and bringing approximately 5 million visitors a year to our communities,” Senator O’Brien said. “State government must continue its efforts to expand this industry and help these innovative companies do what they do best, grow and put New Yorkers back to work.”

Senate Gives Final Passage to "START-UP NY" Job Creation Plan

In a new, significant initiative to create jobs and strengthen the state’s economy, the New York State Senate today gave final passage to legislation (S5903) to establish the START-UP NY program that will create tax-free areas around the state’s colleges, universities and other designated areas.  The bill would also address the need for regulatory relief for businesses, a major priority of the Senate Majority Coalition.

Governor Cuomo and Legislative Leaders Announce Agreement on Bills to Allow Licenses for NY Cideries and Streamline Labeling Process for NY Producers

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, Senate Majority Coalition Leader Dean Skelos, Senate Majority Leader Coalition Leader Jeffery Klein and Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver today announced a three way agreement on two bills that follow through on the promises made after the NYS Wine Beer and Spirits Summit. The Farm Cideries Bill (Governor’s Program Bill #18) will establish a new license for farm cideries similar to the licenses already available to farm wineries, breweries and distilleries.
