Senator O'Brien calls for fracking moratorium

 

ALBANY, N.Y. – Today, Senator Ted O'Brien stood with his Democratic conference colleagues to call for a moratorium on the issuance of certain natural gas drilling permits until a comprehensive health impact study has been completed.  Senator O'Brien stressed the importance of allowing the scientific inquiry regarding "fracking" to advance before making a final decision.

Senator Young Meets with Business Owners at the SUNY Fredonia Technology Incubator

Senator Young recently stopped by the SUNY Fredonia Technology Incubator to meet with business owners whose ideas have started to come to fruition thanks to the assistance provided by the Incubator. The business owners talked about what their businesses need to grow and how they have benefitted from the Incubator.

When the Incubator was in its developmental stages and before a shovel had ever been put in the ground, Senator Young worked with SUNY Fredonia officials to have the facility located downtown instead of on campus. This served several purposes, including helping in the revitalization of Dunkirk’s downtown and fostering a new bridge between the campus and the city.

Today, the Independent Democratic Conference released its 2013 Working Women’s Agenda, a five point plan to build a stronger future for New York’s working women and their families. As part of the IDC’s agenda, the conference also released a comprehensive report entitled Building a Stronger Future for New York’s Working Women that details the impact each proposal will have on New York’s workforce.

RITCHIE APPLAUDS GOV’S EFFORTS TO DRAW CANADIAN TOURISTS TO NY

Suggestion by Senator Ritchie Included in Governor’s

New Plan to Boost Tourism

State Senator Patty Ritchie is applauding Governor Cuomo’s announcement of a number of new initiatives aimed at drawing Canadian tourists to New York State and boosting cross-border commerce.

The efforts were unveiled Wednesday at the Capitol during the Governor’s first-ever New York State Tourism Summit.  As a roundtable participant at the event,  Senator Ritchie spoke about opportunities for expanding and better showcasing tourism in Central and Northern New York.

Specifically, Senator Ritchie —who is a member of the Senate's Cultural Affairs, Tourism, Parks and Recreation Committee—spoke about identifying ways to target Canadian consumers, and suggested improving signage to highlight destinations in Central and Northern New York.

Sen. Jeff Klein Announces Inclusion of Hire-a-Vet Tax Credit in NYS Budget to Combat High Unemployment Rate Among Young Returning Veterans

BRONX, N.Y. – Today, Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) announced that his Hire-a-Vet Tax Credit, a program that will provide every business that hires a post-9/11 veteran with a tax credit of up to $15,000, is now officially a part of state budget. Senator Klein fought for the tax credit during this year’s budget negotiations after learning about the sky-high unemployment rate among New York’s returning veterans.

Senator Klein Announces Tax Credits for Small Businesses; Highlights Impact on Bronx Businesses

BRONX, NY - Senator Jeffrey D. Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester), alongside over 35 business owners in the Bronx and Westchester, announced specific tax credits and reforms passed in the budget that will deliver targeted help to small businesses.      Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) was recently named “Citizen of the Year” by the Freeport Chamber of Commerce.

O'Brien, State Senate pass on-time budget

ALBANY, N.Y. – Senator Ted O’Brien announced today that he voted in favor of the 2013-14 state budget, as it was passed by the State Senate.  The budget included significant tax relief for middle class families and small businesses in addition to strategic investments to encourage job creation and economic development in the Monroe and Ontario County communities Senator O’Brien represents.

“The hardworking families and small businesses who live in the 55th District have struggled long enough under a crushing tax burden and stagnant job market." Senate Adopts Pro-Family, Pro-Jobs Budget

 

ALBANY, 03/27/13 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) today commented on final senate approval of the 2013-14 state budget: 

“The final state budget meets my central budget priorities – control spending, cut taxes and create jobs.  The fiscally responsible plan keeps state spending below the same two-percent cap placed on school districts and local governments while providing significant tax breaks for middle class families, small businesses and manufacturers.  

“I’m particularly pleased with the school aid portion of the budget.   The vast majority of new money, almost $1 billion, will go to low and average wealth schools that need help the most.

Small Business Networking Expo

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) is inviting all current and prospective small business owners to his 2013 Small Business Networking Expo, which take place on Thursday, April 18th from 5 pm to 6:30 pm at the Seaford Knights of Columbus, located at 2183 Jackson Avenue in Seaford.

     The event will provide current and aspiring small business owners with an opportunity to network with one another and learn about services that could help their business grow. Additionally, businesses that were affected by Superstorm Sandy will be able to get information and speak to representatives from government and non-profit agencies about recovery programs designed to help businesses.
