Senator Jack M. Martins recently met with Nassau Community College President Dr. Donald Astrab and Chuck Cutolo, director of government affairs for the college. Senator Martins spoke to Dr. Astrab about life at the college. Nassau offers students the opportunity to get a quality education for reasonable tuition rates.

Albany, N.Y., March 10—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) and State Assemblyman Christopher Friend (R-C, Big Flats) congratulated Joseph Barr of Montour Falls, who was among 20 adult education students from across New York State honored on Wednesday, March 9 by the New York Association for Continuing/Community Education (NYACCE).

The organization’s 28th Annual Awards Ceremony and Legislative Forum was on Wednesday in Albany.  Barr, representing the Greater Southern Tier (GST) BOCES, received a “Student of the Year 2011” award from the association.

AQE Releases Report, Unequal Opportunity Equals Unequal Results

Albany—The Alliance for Quality Education issued a report today titled Unequal Opportunity Equals Unequal Results. During his campaign for governor Andrew Cuomo asserted that, “There are two education systems in this state.  Not public-private. One for the rich and one for the poor and they are both public systems.”  Based on the findings of the report AQE warned that large cuts to education in next week’s Executive Budget would increase educational inequity and would hurt students living in poverty and students of color the most.
