Senator LaValle Announces Annual Earth Day Poster Contest

To celebrate and honor Earth Day this year, Senator LaValle is sponsoring a poster contest for children in grades K – 6. The theme of our Earth Day celebration is “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.”

Entries should be photographed and submitted electronically, preferably in jpeg or pdf format via The form below on the page linked below. All submissions must be uploaded to the web-site by April 11, 2014.

SENATOR PATRICK GALLIVAN TO OFFER FREE ELECTRONICS RECYCLING EVENT IN EAST AURORA

ERIE COUNTY - Senator Patrick M. Gallivan (R-C-I, Elma) is joining with Sunnking Electronics Recycling, Time Warner Cable and the East Aurora Rotary to host a free electronics recycling event Saturday, January 11th, at the Nativity Lutheran Church, 970 E. Main Street in East Aurora from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

“We all use electronics on a daily basis, and as technology progresses, we are replacing electronics more and more often. Many people do not realize that cell phones, laptops and other electronic items contain materials that can be hazardous to the environment,” said Senator Gallivan. “This e-waste recycling event provides a perfect opportunity for people to quickly and conveniently drop off their used and out-dated electronics to be properly recycled and disposed of.”

E-Recycling Event

Dispose of your old electronics, and more, for free at my recycling event on Saturday, September 21, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the DMV parking lot at 5801 E. Taft Rd., North Syracuse. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Central New York Food Bank.

Senator Gianaris Touts Environmental Initiatives on Earth Day

(Queens, NY) Senator Michael Gianaris announced the passage of a bill which would establish incentives for investments in solar energy and applauded Mayor Michael Bloomberg for announcing the largest expansion of New York City’s Recycling Program in 25 years. Senator Gianaris noted that environmental activists had reason to cheer this week as the country celebrated Earth Day on Monday April 22nd and New York, on both the city and state levels, took real steps forward in going green.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO CONGRATULATES COPIAGUE STUDENTS FOR PARTICIPATING IN SENATE’S EARTH DAY POSTER CONTEST

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently visited Copiague Middle School to congratulate 6th grade students Natalia Kacala and Claudia Arevalo for participating in the Senate’s Earth Day Poster Contest.

     Both Natalia and Claudia’s entries focused on the importance of “reducing, reusing, and recycling” in order to protect the environment. Natalia’s entry was chosen as a first place winner in the contest and was displayed in the State Legislative Office Building in Albany along with those of the other winners from across the state.

Town of Gates Earth Week Celebration

On Saturday morning, the Town of Gates held its Earth Week Dedication Ceremony at Lions Park. This year, a tree was planted and dedicated to the Citizens of the Town of Gates from 1813 through 2013. The town is celebrating it's Bicentennial this year.

Celebrate Earth Day and Arbor Day - Plant A Tree!

Superstorm Sandy ravaged trees and greenery around various homes and neighborhoods in New York State, and we’re just beginning to see the long term damage some trees and shrubs suffered.

Thousands upon thousands of trees were lost, but we now have a chance to restore what was lost. Trees and shrubs help reduce storm water runoff, prevent soil erosion, provide habitat and shade, beautify the landscape and protect our shorelines.

This year, April 22 is Earth Day and April 26 is Arbor Day -- the perfect time to plant a tree to replace one that was lost.
