TOSS YOUR TIRES! RITCHIE REMINDS PUBLIC OF FREE WASTE TIRE DROP-OFFS SATURDAY

$15 Fee to be Waived at St. Lawrence County Events Taking Place During “Earth Week” 

State Senator Patty Ritchie is reminding St. Lawrence County residents that as part of Earth Week, she will be hosting two free waste tire drop-off events on Saturday, April 25th.

Being made possible with special funding secured by Senator Ritchie in the State Budget, the events—which are aimed at cleaning up the county, protecting the environment and stopping the spread of illnesses—are being hosted in conjunction with the St. Lawrence County Highway Department.  In addition to this weekend’s events, Senator Ritchie will also host free tire drop-offs on May 9th.

“Across our region, many people are celebrating Earth Week by making an extra effort to tidy up their yards and get rid of waste and debris that pollutes our planet,” said Senator Ritchie.

Senate approves O'Mara's resolution commemorating the 45th Anniversary of Earth Day on April 22, 2015 (Updated)

Albany, N.Y., April 22—The New York State Senate today approved a Legislative Resolution sponsored by Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats), chairman of the Senate Environmental Conservation Committee, commemorating the 45th Anniversary of Earth Day on April 22, 2015.

O’Mara was named the committee’s new chairman in late January at the start of this year’s legislative session.

During her most recent appearance on “Your Voice,” Senator Catharine Young (R,C,I-Olean) discussed the Senate’s one-house budget resolution, known as “Brighter Future,” as well as the on-going Joint Budget Subcommittees and her support for education in this year’s state budget.

 

Last week, the Senate passed their budget resolution. The Senate’s plan continues New York on the path to a fifth consecutive on-time budget while providing property tax relief for homeowners, strong support for students, and a significant investment in the state’s infrastructure.

Senator George Amedore today announced an Earth Day Poster Contest, a statewide contest sponsored by the New York State Senate, that encourages student awareness of environmental issues. The theme of the contest is “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” and is open to students in grades K-6 throughout the 46th Senate district.“As we look forward to celebrating Earth Day in April, this poster contest is a way to encourage our young students to be creative and learn more about the importance of protecting and preserving our environment for future generations,” said Senator Amedore.

"Chanukah is the celebration of miracles, a reminder that all things are possible," Senator Parker said.  "As you celebrate the spirit of Chanukah with friends and family, I wish you health, happiness and good fortune." The holiday celebrates a legendary victory of the Maccabees, a band of Jews, over a Greek army that occupied the Holy Land.  After the battle, the victorious Maccabees found only a one day supply of oil in the temple to light the lamps.  But the oil burned miraculously for eight days, the story says.

Legislative Notebook: State Initiatives of Interest to Veterans

Here is a partial listing of bills I have supported this session to aid New York’s former servicemen and servicewomen. These initiatives will now go to Governor Cuomo for final action.

-- Legislation I co-sponsored was passed by both houses (S.7839, first introduced as S.4714)) to extend the Military Service Credit Law of 2000 to all veterans who have served in the military. Right now, public employees who served in the armed forces may purchase up to three years of pension credit only if their military service occurred during specified conflicts. This measure will expand this opportunity to public employee veterans who also served their country in peacetime.

Ranzenhofer to offer free electronics recycling

Green practice stops hazardous e-waste from going to a landfill

State Senator Mike Ranzenhofer will offer residents an opportunity to recycle old electronics at a free drop-off event on Saturday, May 10th from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Eastern Hills Mall, 4545 Transit Road.

Senator Ranzenhofer is committed to using green practices to positively impact the environment.
