Rebuilding the Bronx After Superstorm Sandy: Klein Announces $3 million in FEMA Funding Flowing to Bronx Institutions

BRONX, NY– Following the one year anniversary of Superstorm Sandy, Senator Klein announced that nearly $3 million in FEMA funding has already flowed to service organizations and cultural institutions in the Bronx. Earlier this year, the New York State Legislature approved federal emergency funds allocated for Sandy relief. Throughout this process, Senator Klein worked to ensure that eligible organizations in his district received these funds to rebuild.

One Year After Sandy: Bronx Lawmakers Celebrate Re-Opening of Tony’s Pier Restaurant

CITY ISLAND, NY – Standing at the far end of City Island, elected officials, members of the City Island business community and the owners of Tony’s Pier, came together to celebrate its re-opening a year after a fire consumed the entire restaurant during the height of Superstorm Sandy.

At the press conference, Senator Jeff Klein, joined by Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr., Assemblyman Mike Benedetto and members of the City Island Chamber of Commerce highlighted the progress made following Superstorm Sandy, while noting there is more work to be done.

Senator Boyle to Host Hurricane Preparedness Event

Upcoming Hurricane Preparedness Event!

Senator Phil Boyle will be hosting a Hurricane Preparedness Seminar on August 28th, to make sure local residents are fully prepared for any storm this hurricane season.

There will be an expert panel to share their knowledge and advice so that the residents of Suffolk County's South Shore will have all of the information necessary to 'weather any storm.'

SENATOR FUSCHILLO INFORMS RESIDENTS ABOUT NEW "HURRICANE" APP

 

     With Long Island in the middle of Hurricane Season, Senator Fuschillo is informing residents about a new, easy-to-use mobile "Hurricane Tracker App" that's been developed by the American Red Cross.

     The app, which is iPhone and Android compatible, includes features such as: the setting of weather alerts; wind speed updates; the location of nearby shelters and emergency services; and information to help residents prepare a family emergency plan.

Senator Lee Zeldin Urges the Federal Government to Make Mastic Beach a Priority

MASTIC BEACH—In a letter to federal elected officials representing Mastic Beach, Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R,C,I- Shirley) joined other local elected officials today to ask for a project to be expedited to replenish sand dunes on Fire Island just south of the Village of Mastic Beach which were wiped away by Super Storm Sandy.

A copy of the letter, signed by Senator Zeldin, Assemblyman Edward Hennessey, Brookhaven Town Supervisor Edward Romaine, Brookhaven Town Councilman Dan Panico, Suffolk County Legislator Kate Browning, and Mastic Beach Mayor Bill Biondi is attached.

Senator Phil Boyle Successfully Completes One Food Drive, Starts Another

Public Official and Community Continue to Respond to Sandy Victims' Need Babylon, NY – State Senator Phil Boyle (R – Bay Shore) recently sponsored a local drive for victims of Superstorm Sandy, accepting donations at his Babylon Village District Office from March 5th through April 5, 2013.  Senator Boyle teamed up with Long Island Cares, Inc. to raise food and supplies for victims still struggling to recover from damages caused by the storm.Senator Boyle’s drive raised over 200 lbs of non-perishable food and needed supplies, which were distributed to those in need.  Residents of Senator Boyle’s 4th Senate District were encouraged to drop off non-perishable foods and needed supplies to his Babylon Village office.

Volunteers Join in Beach Restoration and Cleanup Efforts Babylon, New York – Senator Phil Boyle on Saturday, May 4th sponsored a beach grass planting event at Robert Moses State Park.  Nearly 50 local volunteers participated in the effort to restore some of the damage left behind after Superstorm Sandy.   “Superstorm Sandy left behind a devastating impact on our local beaches,” said Senator Boyle.  “As the summer nears, it is important that we take proactive steps to repair our beaches and protect our environment and way of life.”
