Senator Carlucci, Clarkstown Supervisor Gromack Announce New Laws and Agreements to Improve Response Capabilities One Year After Superstorm Sandy

NEW CITY - Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) and Clarkstown Supervisor Alex Gromack today marked the one-year anniversary of Superstorm Sandy by announcing new plans to respond quicker in the event of a future major storm to hit the Lower Hudson Valley. They were both joined by representatives of Orange & Rockland Utilities and Local Laborers 754 who came out to support the latest initiative that will greatly enhance communication and cooperation with state, town and local municipalities.

Senator Lee Zeldin Urges the Federal Government to Make Mastic Beach a Priority

MASTIC BEACH—In a letter to federal elected officials representing Mastic Beach, Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R,C,I- Shirley) joined other local elected officials today to ask for a project to be expedited to replenish sand dunes on Fire Island just south of the Village of Mastic Beach which were wiped away by Super Storm Sandy.

A copy of the letter, signed by Senator Zeldin, Assemblyman Edward Hennessey, Brookhaven Town Supervisor Edward Romaine, Brookhaven Town Councilman Dan Panico, Suffolk County Legislator Kate Browning, and Mastic Beach Mayor Bill Biondi is attached.

Senator Farley Announces Flood Helpline Available

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) announces the State Flood Helpine has been activated.

“I wanted to let you know that Governor Cuomo activated the NYS Flood Helpline to aid residents affected by widespread flooding across areas of New York State,” said Senator Farley, who represents portions of Herkimer, Saratoga and Schenectady Counties as well as all of Fulton and Hamilton counties.

The NYS Flood Helpline is (888) 769-7243. New Yorkers can call the helpline for assistance, including local information for the Red Cross and Salvation Army, health and safety tips, where to go to receive a tetanus shot, and what to do in case of an oil spill or power outage. Life threatening emergencies should be reserved for 911.
