SENATE APPROVES SENATOR FUSCHILLO’S LEGISLATION TO STRENGTHEN NEW YORK STATE’S DROP-SIDE CRIB BAN

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) announced that the New York State Senate recently passed legislation he sponsored to strengthen New York State’s ban on dangerous drop-side cribs. The legislation would expand the state’s existing drop-side crib ban to prohibit drop-side cribs from being used at child-care facilities and other places of public accommodation. The legislation is necessary to ensure that New York’s law conforms with federal regulations.

Senate Passes Bill to Protect Students From Sexual Predators At School

The New York State Senate today passed legislation that makes it a crime for any school employee or volunteer to have sexual contact with a student, even if that student is at the age of consent.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO SPONSORS FREE CHILD SAFETY SEAT CHECK IN MASSAPEQUA PARK

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently sponsored a free child safety seat check where parents could have their children’s car seats checked for proper installation. The program was held at John Burns Park in Massapequa Park.

     Officials from the Nassau County Traffic Safety Board performed the free safety inspections and fixed any seats that were improperly installed. Parents were also informed of the steps they should take to make sure their child’s car seat is used properly in the future.

Senate, Assembly pass bill to strengthen courts’ ability to protect children by streamlining process required to revoke parental rights after severe or repeat abuse. Bill now heads to Governor to be signed into law.

SENATE PASSES SENATOR FUSCHILLO’S LEGISLATION TO COLLECT DELINQUENT CHILD SUPPORT PAYMENTS

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) announced that the New York State Senate passed legislation he sponsored to ensure that parents make their child support payments.

     Legislation (S4246) would allow New York State to continue to suspend the driver’s licenses of parents who fail to pay child support. Under the driver’s license suspension process, the state identifies parents who failed to pay child support and have a driver’s license. These individuals are then notified that their license will be suspended unless they make their child support payments.

Installation Of Traffic Signal Provides A Safer Route For West Islip High School Students

Senator Phil Boyle was joined by members of the community recently to applaud the installation of traffic signals at the Barberry Road / Wagstaff Lane / Montauk Highway intersection in West Islip.  State funding was secured for the installation of traffic lights at this dangerous intersection near West Islip High School after several students sustained injuries in motor vehicle accidents in 2011.

‘Child Safe Products Act’ Legislative Sponsors Champion Fight for Passage in 2013Mineola—Thousands of toxic chemicals, most untested for safety purposes, are being used to make everyday children’s products, such as car seats, toys, and bedding. Senator Philip Boyle (R-Babylon) and Assemblyman Robert Sweeney (D-Lindenhurst), the lead sponsors of the Child Safe Products Act (A.6328/S.4614), announced that the bill has passed the Assembly and are calling on their colleagues in the Senate to pass this important legislation. The bill identifies the most dangerous chemicals,  begins a phase-out of these chemicals in 2018, and has broad support in the health, environmental and business communities.

State Senate Passes Erin Merryn's Law Aimed at Child Sex Abuse Prevention

ALBANY – Legislation co-sponsored by Senator David J. Valesky (D-Oneida) aimed at preventing child sexual abuse passed the New York State Senate today. “Erin Merryn’s Law” (S.2367) would require schools to add child sex abuse prevention to existing curriculum for child abduction. In addition to prevention, this alteration would give critically important information to victims–many of whom do not know there is a way out of their horrific situation.

Senator Felder Unveils Legislation for Middle-Class Child Care Tax Credit

Credit Would Ease Child Care Costs for Middle-Class New Yorkers, Currently the Highest in the Nation

At a press conference at City Hall yesterday, Senator Simcha Felder (D-Brooklyn) unveiled legislation which will ease the cost of child care for middle-class families in New York City. Senator Felder made the announcement in conjunction with Speaker Quinn, The Children’s Aid Society, United Neighborhood Houses, the Children’s Defense Fund and parents of young children eligible for child care.
