Section Five Football Hall of Fame Dedication

On Saturday, March 26th, I had the opportunity to speak at, and help cut the ribbon at, a ceremony to dedicate the new Section Five Football Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame is now located permanently at Sahlen's Stadium (formerly PAETEC Park) in downtown Rochester. Past student-athletes, contributors, administrators, and officials are honored in the hall. Section Five will induct the 2011 Hall of Fame Class at a ceremony next Thursday night, April 7th. Gabe Dalmath Memorial Walk Raises Money for Camp Northpoint

On Sunday morning, March 20th, Senator Robach spoke to participants at the 8th Annual Gabe Dalmath Memorial Walk to benefit Camp Northpoint. Money raised will help improve the 48-acre YMCA camp that kids from kindergarten through ninth grade can attend. Over 200 people took part in the walk at the Mall at Greece Ridge.

Urges Colleagues to Support Legislation to Protect Our Children

Brooklyn- Responding to a recent case of physical child abuse of a 17 month old child in Brooklyn that has left the child hospitalized, State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) today is calling on the State Legislature to act on two pieces of legislation he has introduced in the State Senate designed to combat child abuse throughout New York.

Senator Golden has introduced a bill, S. 2163, that will establish a temporary commission to study child abuse prevention and make recommendations to the Governor and the Legislature for the implementation of child abuse prevention programs across New York State.

Senator Montgomery Votes Down Senate Republican's Budget Resolution, Faults Proposal for Dismissing Juvenile Justice Reform

Dear Constituents and Juvenile Justice Advocates:

The Republican-controlled Senate and the Assembly have each submitted their budget bills, which accept and reject portions of the Governor’s recommended State spending plan for FY 2011-12.

While I was pleased by many of the funding restorations contained in the Senate’s budget resolution, I voted against the proposal because it hurts our children -- our young people who are on the road to ruin because we, as a State, are not acting responsibly to reform New York’s juvenile justice system.

KLEIN ATTENDS READ ALLIANCE PROGRAM COMPLETION CEREMONY AT P.S. 97

Senator Klein Presents Certificates to Students and Tutors 

BRONX, NY – State Senator Jeff Klein (D- Bronx/ Westchester) and President of AT&T New York Hal Lenox attended the READ Alliance Program completion ceremony at P.S. 97 on Friday. A tutoring session was held prior to the ceremony where the children were tutored by students from St. Raymond’s, St. Catherine’s, Lehman and Truman High Schools. During the ceremony, Klein and READ Alliance President Yvonne Petrasovits presented students and tutors with certificates of achievement for their hard work.

Senator Klein Fights To Help Save Money That Supports Deaf, Blind and Physically Disabled Schools

BRONX, NY –  State Senator Jeff Klein (D- Bronx/ Westchester) joined concerned students, parents and educators during an Albany rally to save the funding for schools that serve deaf, blind and physically disabled students. 

The Bronx  is home to three of these schools otherwise known as 4201 schools -  Lavelle School for the Blind, St. Joseph’s School for the Deaf and New York Institute for Special Education.

Greece Athena Middle School Director Honored Before Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

On Friday, March 4th, Greece Athena Middle School opened up its production of 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang'. Prior to the first show of the weekend, Senator Robach presented a certificate to Artistic Director Carl Wager. Wager is retiring after a 39-year career of a teacher and director. 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang' continues Friday March 11th at 7:30 and Saturday March 12th at 2:00 and 7:30 at the Greece Athena Performing Arts Center.

3/9/2011: Mental Health Matters Advocacy Day

Speakers included Assemblyman Felix Ortiz, Chair on Mental Hygiene, Senator Roy McDonald, Chair of Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities, Senator Shirley L. Huntley, Ranking Member on Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities, Assemblyman, Jeffrey Dinowitz Chair of Aging and Mental Health Commissioner Michael Hogan. Also, we will hear from other leading experts discussing significant mental health issues.

We will also have the wonderful mix of MHA members dedicated to community based mental health services, our grassroots colleagues from AFSP, our colleagues in the community as well as several high school students whose schools have been directly impacted by suicide completion.
