Kennedy Announces Senate Passage of Bill Designed to Increase Confidentiality Within Child Fatality Reports

Kennedy: Legislation Helps Create Greater Report Transparency, While Maintaining Family Privacy 

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Senator Tim Kennedy (D-Buffalo) announced today the passage of legislation which amends the social services law in order to increase the confidentiality of families named in child fatality reports. If enacted, the law would require local social services departments to make sure any comments made in the report protect the confidentiality of the deceased child, the child’s family and the source of the report.  In the past, concerns have been voiced about state officials not releasing fatality reports due to an inability to redact these identities and other sensitive case information.

Senator Venditto Reads Aloud to Levy Lakeside Elementary School

Merrick, NY- New York State Senator Michael Venditto, (R, C, I- Massapequa) recently had the opportunity to participate in the Merrick Community Read Aloud Celebration at Norman J Levy Lakeside Elementary School as a guest reader to Mrs. Klein's Kindergarten Class.

Senator Venditto read "Cupcake" by Charise Mericle Harper, a book that teachers children about how everyone is special and that everyone, plain or colorful, has something to offer. Senator Venditto also talked with the 1st Graders about his job as a New York State Senator and the importance of public service.

Independent Democratic Conference: More education, housing, child care, smart growth

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. --  The Independent Democratic Conference in the state Senate released a 15-point plan Monday to invest in the state's workforce, education, housing, child care and smart growth communities.

The IDC, a five-member group of Democrats, including state Sen. Diane Savino (D-North Shore/Brooklyn), has had a coalition with Republicans to give them a working majority in the chamber and give the IDC a larger role in Senate business as co-leaders. Now with an outright majority, Republicans continue to work with the IDC, no longer sharing co-leader roles.

Senator Venditto Participates in Chatterton Elementary School's Annual Parents as Reading Partners Event

Merrick, NY- - New York State Senator Michael Venditto, (R, C, I- Massapequa) recently had the opportunity to participate in the Merrick Union Free School District's annual PARP (Parents as Reading Partners) event at Chatterton Elementary School as a guest reader to Mrs. Feltman's 1st Grade Class.

Senator Venditto read "The Talent Show" by Jo Hodgkinson to the class. The book is about the importance of judging people on talent, not on size. Senator Venditto also talked with the 1st Graders about his job as a New York State Senator and the importance of public service.

Senator Gallivan Announces Senate Passes Bills to Protect and Enhance Women's Rights

Senator Patrick M. Gallivan (R-C-I, Elma) announces the New York State Senate has passed eight pieces of legislation as part of the Senate’s Women’s Equality Agenda, enhancing the rights of women while protecting from abuse and discrimination.  The bills, which Senator Gallivan co-sponsored, would ensure equal pay for equal work; combat sexual harassment on the job; end gender discrimination in employment, housing and credit decisions; strengthen laws against human trafficking, make reasonable work accommodations for pregnant women and better protect victims of domestic violence.

Bill Improves the Screening Process for Prospective Foster Parents

UTICA – Assemblywoman Nily Rozic (D,WF-Queens) and Senator Joseph Griffo (R-Rome) announced that legislation (A8474/S6875) they drafted to protect foster children from being placed in unsuitable homes has been signed into law by Governor Cuomo. The new law creates a formal system for an agency to review and evaluate an applicant’s history if the applicant were to apply to another agency to take in foster children.

Chanukah is the celebration of Miracles!

"Chanukah is the celebration of miracles, a reminder that all things are possible," Senator Parker said.  "As you celebrate the spirit of Chanukah with friends and family, I wish you health, happiness and good fortune." The holiday celebrates a legendary victory of the Maccabees, a band of Jews, over a Greek army that occupied the Holy Land.  After the battle, the victorious Maccabees found only a one day supply of oil in the temple to light the lamps.  But the oil burned miraculously for eight days, the story says.
