Football team transcends field to measure success

NORTH SHORE -- The Staten Island Hurricanes’ youth football organization celebrated a season of success with a pizza party at the Modell’s Sporting Goods store in Travis Sunday.The party was hosted by state Senator Diane Savino and Modell’s to honor the four age divisions of Hurricanes teams, including the Midget division (13-15 age group) team that won the national championship under head coach Boli Johnson.

In tribute to the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., New York State Senate Majority Leader Pedro Espada, Jr. was joined by clergy representing all religions, students of schools and members of athletic teams throughout the Bronx, and borough community leaders and residents in a massive “MLK March for Peace to End Gun and Youth Violence.” Before the parade, with pledge cards in hand, Sen. Espada asked the borough’s youth to sign on to an anti-gun/gang pledge to help end violence and hate/bias crimes among young people in the Bronx.

R&B Artist Omarion To Visit The North West Community Center. "Inspiring youths with words of encouragement."

Thompson (D-Parts of Erie & Niagara Counties), Jet Blue Airlines, Towne Ballroom and Kholes Entertainment will present R&B artist Omarion with a proclamation from the New York State Senate during his visit to Buffalo on Saturday, January 16, 2010.  This event will take place at the North West Community Center at 155 Lawn Avenue  in Buffalo  at 5:00 PM.

Spaghetti Dinner for Barnard Fire Department's Johnathan Davis

On Sunday, January 17th, from Noon until 6:00 p.m., the Barnard Fire Department is hosting a spaghetti dinner fundraiser for Johnathan Davis, a member of its explorer post. Johnathan, a 16-year old, and a junior at Greece Odyssey, suffered a seizure caused by a cancerous brain tumor in July, 2009. Senator Alesi Protecting Child Safety

For several years now, Senator Alesi has sponsored numerous bills that tackle the issue of removing dangerous toxins from toys, novelty products, costume jewelry, candy, and drinking water.             Toxins such as chromated copper arsenate (CCA), lead, phthalates, and bisphenol-A (BPA) have been found in playgrounds and in many common products such as toys, pacifiers, and baby bottles.

Update on Home Town Football Teams

The PeeWee's returned to Nationals full throttle winning the first two games. Many of the players won a National tittle in 2008 as Jr PeeWee's.  They defeated the MLK Texans 24-6 in their first game of the week.  The next Stop Was the Scottsdale Firebirds,pulling out a 19-6 victory here landed the Hurricane PeeWee's in the National Tittle Game.  The Parkside Warriors jumped on the canes right out the gate, dressed in uniformes simular in color and style to the Canes, remembering last years pounding they took in a loss to the Hurricanes.
