Griffo Says Senate Plan Emphasizes Job Creation & Fiscal Responsibility

(Albany)- Senator Joseph A. Griffo (R-C-IP, Rome) said today that the State Senate passed its 2012-13 Senate Budget resolution that aims to control state spending, avoid new taxes, fees and unfunded mandates and helps create new jobs.

The Senate budget, at just under $132.5 billion, keeps the total state spending increase below two percent, and spends slightly less than the Executive Budget.  The budget closes a $2 billion budget deficit and builds on last year’s successes in putting the state’s fiscal house in order.

Senator Farley Announces NYS Senate Approved Its 2012 Budget Proposal

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) recently announced the State Senate approved its new State Budget proposal for 2012.

"Last year, I worked together with Governor Andrew Cuomo to pass an on-time budget that closed a $10 billion gap, reduced spending and avoided any new taxes and fees. We also approved a property tax cap and enacted a major middle class income tax cut -- bringing rates to the lowest level in 58 years," Senator Farley said.

We accomplished a great deal in 2011, but we still have lots of work to do to keep New York State moving in the right direction, he said.

The Senate's fiscally responsible budget plan will:

· Keep spending growth under 2% -- even less than what the Governor proposed;

Senator Zeldin and Senate Majority Restore STAR Rebate for Seniors in Budget Resolution

State Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R, C, I-Shirley) announced today that within this week’s State Senate 2012-2013 Budget Resolution, there will be much needed tax relief for New York’s Senior Citizens.

Senator Michael Ranzenhofer (R, C, I-Amherst) and Senator Zeldin introduced this legislation (S.6286) in January and have been actively advocating on its behalf since. On February 29, 2012, the Senate’s Aging Committee unanimously passed their bill to restore the STAR Rebate Check for seniors.

“The return of the STAR Rebate will give struggling seniors on fixed incomes a little breathing room,” said Senator Zeldin. “The Rebate Check should not have been repealed in 2009 and it is important that we bring it back to provide property tax relief to seniors who need it most.”
