Task Force on Government Efficiency Uncovers Excessive Overtime Spending In State Agencies

Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins (35th District- D/WF) announced that the Senate Task Force on Government Efficiency has once again discovered excessive spending practices in State Agencies. The Senate Task Force on Government Efficiency released a report that has found excessive waste within the State Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities (OMRDD), recommending a $3.8 million reduction in overtime costs for the agency.

Senator Seward Enlists Taxpayers To Help Cut Wasteful Government Spending

Senate Majority Committed To Reopening Our Parks

Building on their efforts to preserve parks for all New York’s families, the Senate Majority passed legislation (S7776A/Serrano) calling for state parks and historic sites to remain open throughout the 2010-2011 fiscal year. In its one house budget resolution, the Senate Democratic Majority restored funding to prevent the closure of  57 State Parks and reduced operations at an additional 22 State Parks.

Senator Krueger Speaks On the Budget at The Rockefeller Institute

Lieutenant Governor Richard Ravitch has outlined a five-year financial plan under which New York State would be required to achieve and maintain structural budgetary balance. Leaders in the state Senate and Assembly have offered their own proposals for budget reform. This Institute forum brought together leading members of the Senate and Assembly majorities, and independent fiscal experts, to comment on the plan. Senator Krueger outlined proposals by the Senate Committee on Budget and Tax Reform.

Results & Response to Budget Survey

Over the past several months, through a budget survey offered online and mailed to my constituents, I have been collecting feedback on how New Yorkers think the budget should be dealt with. More than 1,900 people provided informative responses, sharing many different perspectives on the budget while also highlighting the difficulties we face in trying to bring together so many diverse opinions.
