Your Refund Can't Wait

Taxpayers are struggling and in economic times like this, people use their income tax returns to pay rent, their heating bills, or put food on the table.

New Yorkers need their government to ease the pressure, not add to it.The Governor’s proposal to delay income tax returns would only punish New Yorkers who pay their taxes on time and in full, and just want the return they deserve.

There is a big difference between making tough decisions and bad decisions—this proposal is just plain wrong.

Deficit Grows Even Larger

By Karen DeWitt ALBANY, NEW YORK (WXXI) - The state's budget deficit has grown yet again, and has now reached $8.2 billion dollars, says Governor Paterson, who says another $750 million dollar hole has opened up in the past couple of weeks.Paterson, saying "January was a difficult month", says a decline in personal income tax collections, due to uncertainty over Wall Street bonuses, and higher than anticipated Medicaid costs, contributed to the new deficit.

Senate Majority Opposes Governor's Attempts To Delay Income Tax Refunds

If New Yorkers have to pay their taxes on time, the state should provide its refunds on time, Senate Majority Democrats told Governor Paterson today. Passing a resolution with broad bi-partisan support, the Senate formally opposed the Governor’s scheme to delay more than $500 million in refunds to individuals and $200 in refunds to businesses.

Public Hearing: Joint Legislative Budget Hearing: Human Services

New York State Senate Finance Committee Chair Carl Kruger and Assembly Ways and Means Committee Chair Herman “Denny” Farrell will conclude the joint budget examining the full fiscal consequences—including proposed cuts—of the Governor’s budget on human and social service programs on Tuesday..
