Budget Work Cannot Wait

ALBANY, 03/03/10 – State senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today called for a full court press on development of the 2010-2011 budget. “The budget deadline is less than a month away and to date, very little has been accomplished concerning the 2010-2011 state budget.  We need to move forward now with a complete review of the governor’s proposal and set to work amending the plan for final approval.  Today’s five-way leaders meetings is a start, but we need to ramp up the work load.

Taxpayers are struggling and in economic times like this, people use their income tax returns to pay rent, their heating bills, or put food on the table.

New Yorkers need their government to ease the pressure, not add to it.The Governor’s proposal to delay income tax returns would only punish New Yorkers who pay their taxes on time and in full, and just want the return they deserve.

There is a big difference between making tough decisions and bad decisions—this proposal is just plain wrong.

Deficit Grows Even Larger

By Karen DeWitt ALBANY, NEW YORK (WXXI) - The state's budget deficit has grown yet again, and has now reached $8.2 billion dollars, says Governor Paterson, who says another $750 million dollar hole has opened up in the past couple of weeks.Paterson, saying "January was a difficult month", says a decline in personal income tax collections, due to uncertainty over Wall Street bonuses, and higher than anticipated Medicaid costs, contributed to the new deficit.
