Senate Majority Opposes Governor's Attempts To Delay Income Tax Refunds

If New Yorkers have to pay their taxes on time, the state should provide its refunds on time, Senate Majority Democrats told Governor Paterson today. Passing a resolution with broad bi-partisan support, the Senate formally opposed the Governor’s scheme to delay more than $500 million in refunds to individuals and $200 in refunds to businesses.

Public Hearing: Joint Legislative Budget Hearing: Human Services

New York State Senate Finance Committee Chair Carl Kruger and Assembly Ways and Means Committee Chair Herman “Denny” Farrell will conclude the joint budget examining the full fiscal consequences—including proposed cuts—of the Governor’s budget on human and social service programs on Tuesday.. This hearing was postponed as a result of weather earlier in the month.

New Report Exposes Wasteful Spending by SUNY

NEW YORK- State Senate Deputy Majority Leader Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) exposed SUNY’s wasteful employee overtime spending. Klein also called on SUNY and Governor Paterson to cut overtime spending in half, potentially saving NYS $5 million dollars by the end of March 2010 and centralize the SUNY police force, saving NYS $3 million dollars in the next year.
