Sen. Espaillat Calls for Action, Following Tragic Connecticut Shooting

New York State Senator Adriano Espaillat released the following statement regarding the Newtown, Connecticut shooting on Friday which resulted in the deaths of 26 people, including 20 children.

“As we learn more and more about the tragic shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, it is clear that we need strong, decisive action against gun violence. Along with prayers for victims of this horrific tragedy, we must take specific steps to combat the rampant flow of guns in our society.

“In New York State, we must pass common-sense gun safety measures like mandatory renewal requirements of firearm licenses; micro-stamping ammunition so criminals can be easier to track and deter; and enhanced scrutiny for mentally unstable individuals seeking guns.

GALLIVAN QUESTIONS DMV CONTRACT FOR NEW LICENSES WITH CANADIAN COMPANY

Senate Economic Development Chair Cites Economic and Safety Concerns, Urges Comptroller’s Office To Thoroughly Review Contract

“The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles’ apparent selection of a bid submitted by CBN Secure Technology of Canada to produce the state’s next generation drivers licenses raises several questions and concerns.”

“The fact that CBN’s bid was the most expensive to taxpayers and would shift the development and manufacturing processes out of the United States raises some questions as New York State continues to grapple with budget issues. I hope the State Comptroller’s office gives this contract a thorough review to ensure tax dollars are being invested wisely.”

Mark Davis' family were in the Senate Chamber 5/22 to watch as "Mark's Law" won the Senate's approval in an overwhelming, bipartisan vote.

The photo above shows Mark's brother, Michael; sister, Maricia; Mom, Marsha, and Dad, Larry, with Senator Ritchie, in the Senate Chamber prior to the vote.
