Statement by Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos on David Storobin's Victory

Now that all of the votes have been counted and a mandatory recount has taken place, I want to extend my congratulations to David Storobin on his long-awaited victory in the special election for the 27th Senate District.  This victory is a credit to the grass roots campaign he ran and shows that Brooklyn residents are ready to make a fresh, new start.

I expect David to be a strong voice on their behalf and our partner in controlling spending, reducing taxes and helping businesses create new jobs.

I know that Senator-elect Storobin will be a valuable addition to the New York State Senate, and I welcome him to our chamber.

WINNERS AND LOSERS, MAY 25, 2012

City and State reported that Senator Gianaris' video at this year's LCA show was funny and well received by those in attendance.

Word on the street is the Democratic Senator from Queens got the most laughs at this year’s LCA show, with a bit making fun of the Senate Dems’ failed bid at an independent redistricting process this year. It’s not always easy to make fun of yourself, especially on an issue that wasn’t very funny to Gianaris when the gerrymandered district lines were being passed in the Senate during the Big Ugly. (Who can forget Gianaris telling Republican Sen. Mike Nozzolio to take his map and “shove it?”)

Gianaris seeks to halt feed additive

The Queens Chronicle wrote an article about Senator Gianaris' proposal to ban the chicken feed additive, Roxarsone, which has been linked to several diseases, including cancer.

State Sen. Michael Gianaris (D-Astoria) announced Monday he has proposed a ban of Roxarsone (3-Nitro) and other drugs containing arsenic in chicken feed.

Roxarsone aids in making the appearance of poultry pinker because it causes the chicken’s blood vessels to grow unnaturally larger. The additive has been linked to several diseases, including cancer.

“This is a known cancer-causing agent that has no business being in our system,” Gianaris said.
