Statement from Senator Valesky Regarding Governor's Ethics Bill Veto

I am deeply disappointed that the Governor chose to veto the ethics reform package. This legislation is a good first step in advancing substantial structural change in the way business is conducted in Albany, and will wipe out decades of ineffective ethics standards and enforcement. 

For the reform movement to move forward, we need steady progress, not line in the sand posturing.

The Senate will move to override this veto, and I implore my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to vote in favor of it, as they did with the original legislation.

This is the bi-weekly report on the New York State Senate’s web presence. This week the website received a total of 29469 visits. It had a bounce rate of 48%, higher than it’s long term average of 41%, and new visitors 70% of the time, higher than the long term average of 66%. The all time graph at the bottom of the first page shows that the website has returned to its pre-Marraige Equality performance.

The live webcasting has drawn over 500,000 views since it’s adoption and the archived footage has followed that growth very closely. The views of short clips on the NYSenate Youtube account continue to surpass total views on Livestream. NYSenateUncut videos remain about 19 times less watched than short clips on NYSenate.

The all time graph at the bottom of the first page continues to show that the Marriage Equality debate garnered unprecedented attention for nysenate.gov and demonstrates the potential for online public engagement.

It had a bounce rate of 43%, slightly higher than its long term average of 39%, and new visitors 74% of the time, higher than the long term average of 65%. The all time graph at the bottom of the first page show that the huge increase in the number of visitors was due to the Marriage Equality debate which garnered unprecedented attention for nysenate.gov and demonstrates the potential for online public engagement.

It had a bounce rate of 46%, higher than its long term average of 38%, and new visitors 75% of the time, higher than the long term average of 63%. The all time graph at the bottom of the first page shows that, after a lull through August, September and the beginning of October, visits are trending upwards.

The live webcasting has drawn over 80,000 views since its adoption and the archived footage has followed that growth fairly closely. However, the short clips on the NYSenate Youtube account are about 4 times more watched than the full videos of session and events posted on the nysenateuncut account.

Legislature Announces Joint Budget Hearing Schedule

Senate Finance Committee Chair Carl Kruger and Assembly Ways and Means Committee Chair Herman Farrell, Jr., today announced the Joint Legislative Hearing Schedule on the 2010-2011 Executive Budget proposal. These hearings, each of which focus on a programmatic area, are intended to provide the appropriate legislative committee with public input on the executive budget proposal. These hearings are available for viewing on Assembly webpage.
