11/18/2009: Senator Huntley explains her vote on "Leandra's Law"

(S. 66008-Dilan/A. 40008-Weisenberg) The Child Passenger Protection Act was signed into law November 18, 2009 after both the New York State Senate and Assembly passed it unanimously during a Special Session. The bill also called Leandra’s Law, was named after Leandra Rosado who died at the age of 11 as a passenger in a vehicle driven by a drunk driver. Leandra’s father, Lenny Rosado was in attendance when the bill passed the Senate and when Governor Paterson officially signed the bill.

Senate Unanimously Approves Special Committee Of Inquiry

By unanimous vote, the Senate passed a resolution today approving the Special Committee of Inquiry, chaired by Senator Eric T. Schneiderman,  to investigate the conduct for which Senator Hiram Monserrate was convicted by the State Supreme Court of Queens County. The committee’s first official meeting will be held today at 5:00 PM in Capitol Room 124, open press.

Senator Jose M. Serrano And NYS Senate Launch Revolutionary Open Legislation Website At Harlem High School

Today, Senator Jose M. Serrano launched the Senate’s new Open Legislation  website through an interactive presentation to students at the Manhattan Center for Science and Mathematics. The students participated in the first demonstration of the new, user friendly search engine which allows individuals to easily search, navigate, share and comment on all Senate legislation.
