Senator Owen H. Johnson sponsored legislation that helps over 98,000 charities and non-profits in New York continue to provide desperately needed social work services to those in need.  The bill (S.5713), passed by the NY Senate on June 17, 2011, grants a nine month extension for charitable organizations to apply for a New York State Education Department waiver that will allow them to continue to lawfully employ licensed social workers and other mental health professionals.

Breast Cancer Help, Inc. held its 16th Annual Gala and Casino Night

Breast Cancer Help, Inc. held its 16th Annual Gala and Casino Night at the Sheraton Long Island in Hauppauge.  The evening included dinner, musical entertainment, raffles, and casino games including blackjack, roulette, craps and a money wheel.  All proceeds benefited Breast Cancer Help, Inc., its Long Island Cancer Help and Wellness Center, and research for the causes and cure of breast cancer.“I was pleased to be selected as this year’s honoree for the 16th Annual Gala and Casino Night,” Senator Johnson said.  “ I applaud the tireless mission of Breast Cancer Help, Inc. in providing programs and services for early detection and treatment of breast cancer.”

SENATOR FUSCHILLO TO SPONSOR BREAST CANCER SCREENING PROGRAM IN MASSAPEQUA PARK

New York State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick), in conjunction with NuHealth/Nassau Health Care Corporation, will be sponsoring a breast cancer screening program on Thursday, June 16th from 8:45 am to 12:00 pm at the Massapequa Library (Bar Harbour Building). The library is located at 40 Harbor Lane in Massapequa Park.            Appointments are necessary and will be scheduled on first-come, first-served basis.

Highbridge Residents Get Free Mammograms

State Senator José M. Serrano, Assemblywoman Vanessa Gibson and the Project Renewal Scan Van Program today offered free Mammogram Screenings for eligible women in the Highbridge section of the Bronx.“All women can take an active part in the early detection of breast cancer by having regular visits to the doctor, self breast exams and periodic mammograms,” said Senator Serrano. “However, for uninsured women, getting a mammogram can be costly and inconvenient. That’s why we’re bringing the Scan Van to local residents throughout the 28th District in the next few weeks.”

Caucus to Protect Women's 'Hard-Fought' Rights

A legislative caucus formed earlier this year has legislators from both houses and both sides of the aisle fighting to protect reproductive health rights and helping advocates to educate New Yorkers about them.

"Women's rights and women's reproductive rights are not a bipartisan issue. It's a health care issue," said Assemblywoman Teresa Sayward, R-Willsboro. "It's an issue that government should be working together on to make sure that our children have proper information that they need to keep themselves safe and to keep themselves healthy."

Hilton Lady Cadets Go Pink

The Hilton Lady Cadets lacrosse team is going pink for breast cancer awareness. The girls wore special pink jersey prior to Mother's Day for Breast Cancer Awareness. On Monday, May 16th, they will hold a special breast cancer awareness night when they take on Greece Arcadia/Olympia at 7:30. The team members are: Alex Bennett, Katrina Campbell, Shannen Drennon, Sam Ekiert, Danielle Endres, Anai Flanagan, Serena Gates, Bridget Hamlin, Leia Hayward, Sarah Johnson, Briana Kimble, Monica Messina, Jessica Noto, Stephani Pakusch, Alex Phillips, Biz Reinhardt, Nadia Wallace, Danielle Wilkin, and Jessica Zagari.
