Senate Approves Nurse Practitioners To Sign Death Certificates

The NYS Senate passed legislation (S.2969) this week permitting the nearly 13,000 certified nurse practitioners from across the state to sign death certificates ensuring the delivery of appropriate and medically-accurate postmortem care.

The legislation, sponsored by Senator Velmanette Montgomery (D-Brooklyn), gives nurse practitioners the authority and responsibility to complete death certificates in the same manner as physicians, medical examiners and coroners.

New York State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District), in conjunction with the Nassau Health Care Corporation, will be sponsoring a breast cancer screening program on Thursday, February 18th at the North Bellmore Library.The screenings will be held at the North Bellmore Library, located at 1551 Newbridge Road in North Bellmore, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:10 p.m. Appointments are necessary and will be scheduled on first-come, first-served basis.

The passage of a health care reform bill with a public option in the House ought to be cause for celebration, but an amendment added at the last minute eviscerating the reproductive rights of women casts a dark cloud over this historic victory. Padavan Host Mammography Screening In Bellerose

On Saturday November 14th,  New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) and the American-Italian Cancer Foundation hosted a mammography screening event outside of Padavan’s Bellerose District Office. The no-cost screenings took place on the Foundation’s fully contained mobile mammography van. There were no-out-of-pocket expense and no co-pays for both insured and uninsured women.
