SENATE PASSES BILL TO HELP BREAST CANCER PATIENTS RECOVER FROM A PARTIAL MASTECTOMY

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) announced that he and his colleagues in the New York State Senate recently passed legislation that would help some breast cancer patients by requiring insurance companies to cover reconstruction for partial mastectomies.

The bill (S3801A) adds partial mastectomies to the law that already covers reconstruction for full mastectomies. It would ensure that breast cancer patients who undergo the partial loss of a breast have reconstruction as an option covered by insurance.

Major Enhancement to Breast Cancer Prevention Passes Senate

In a major victory in his three-year battle to enhance women’s ability to protect themselves against breast cancer, Senator John J. Flanagan (2nd Senate District) announced that legislation (6769B) he sponsored to assist in the fight against breast cancer has passed the Senate and is expected to pass in the Assembly.  The legislation will provide women with dense breasts the information they need to make decisions regarding their health care.

Times Union: Senate Dems Discuss Women’s Health

The Albany Times Union reports on our women's health forum this week in Albany:

Tuesday morning’s forum is the latest in a series of similar sessions called by the minority conference to draw attention to Democratic legislation — also including measures concerning a minimum wage boost, hydrofracking and more — that has received no love from the Republican majority.

Nyack Hospital, Senator Carlucci to Host Free Breast Cancer Screenings for Uninsured and Underinsured Women in Rockland

NYACK HOSPITAL TO HOST FREE BREAST CANCER SCREENINGS FOR UNINSURED AND UNDERINSURED WOMEN IN ROCKLAND COUNTY

NYACK, NY (June 8, 2012) -  On June 8th from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. Nyack Hospital will host FREE Breast Cancer Screenings for uninsured and underinsured women in Rockland County.  The screenings include routine Mammography and Clinical Breast Exams.  This cancer screening event is grant funded by the Cancer Services Program of the Hudson Valley Region in partnership with Nyack Hospital, and, in part, with a grant from Capital One.  Refreshments will be provided by New York State Senator David Carlucci.

On June 5, 2012, Senator Shirley L. Huntley along with members of the Senate Democratic Conference addressed and discussed a myriad of topics related to Women’s Health in a public forum format. Senator Huntley’s Military Sexual Trauma bill (S. 6342-C) was discussed by special guest speaker Ardeane Greene-Cook, a retired veteran, survivor of MST, and advocate of female soldiers and veterans.

Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick), in conjunction with NuHealth/Nassau Health Care Corporation, will be sponsoring a breast cancer screening program on Thursday, June 21st from 8:45 am to 12:00 pm at the Massapequa Library- Bar Harbour Building. The library is located at 40 Harbor Lane in Massapequa Park.

 

    Appointments are necessary and will be scheduled on first-come, first-served basis. On site nurses and technicians will provide a mammography, a clinical breast examination and instructions for self examination. Patients and their physicians will be notified of the exam results.

Oppenheimer Urges All Women to Get a Mammogram this Mother's Day

Senator Suzi Oppenheimer (D-Mamaroneck) today urged all women to give themselves the gift of peace of mind this Mother’s Day by scheduling an appointment for a mammogram. Along with the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program, the Senator is promoting getting tested for breast cancer in their annual Mother’s Day mammography campaign.

“Mammograms are so important because they offer the greatest opportunity for early detection and a full recovery,” stated the Senator. “And since 95 percent of all mammograms prove to be normal, there is no reason to fear or avoid being tested.”
