This Wednesday, as Governor Cuomo presented his “State of the State” Address, Senator Bill Perkins delivered an equally important message from the good people of Senate District 30 to the Governor: 

"Exercise your power as Chief Executive to ensure that the current small, local, longstanding minority-owned businesses at 121 West 125th Street—who believed and invested in our Harlem community when no one else would—are allowed to grow alongside the National Urban League in the proposed Land Use Improvement and Civic Project.”

Land Bank Sales Controversy

While it was a big day for members of the Land Bank board, it was also a big day for Zahide Halimi. A day she's long waited for. Zahide and her husband immigrated from Bosnia more than ten years ago. Her parents have now followed her to Syracuse, but have been unable to find a home. YNN's Bill Carey has more on the story.

SENATOR PARKER CROWNED A ‘KING OF KINGS COUNTY’

Brooklyn, NY- On Thursday, November 7, 2013, Senator Kevin Parker was declared one of the ‘Kings of Kings County’ at the 3rd Annual Kings of Kings County - A Champions Breakfast Awards & Networking Event. The awards breakfast was held at El Caribe Country Club this year. The purpose of the award is to recognize Brooklyn’s most influential male change agents; people whose major achievements, leadership and participation in the community help strengthen the city. The awards ceremony was attended by hundreds of guests, and preceded by a business expo where business and community leaders had opportunities to network.

Holy Rosary Apartments Ribbon Cutting

I was pleased to join Providence Housing Development and members of our community at the ribbon cutting for the new apartment complex at the former Holy Rosary parish campus in the City of Rochester. This new affordable rental housing complex offers 35 apartments on the Holy Rosary campus and 25 newly constructed single-family homes in the Edgerton neighborhood. This truly is a great project for our community and the Edgerton neighborhood.

Community Leaders Gather to Celebrate Lackawanna Homes Project

LACKAWANNA – On Saturday, September 28, 2013, New York State Senator Tim Kennedy and Assemblyman Sean Ryan hosted a community event celebrating the upcoming Lackawanna Homes project. The project, locally sponsored by Lackawanna Housing Development Corporation, will construct 48 single-family homes in Lackawanna’s First Ward. The project will be constructed by The NRP Group LLC, and the $12 million cost is funded by New York State Office of Homes and Community Renewal, the City of Lackawanna, and Erie County. The Lackawanna Homes project is set to start construction in April 2014.

Senator Kennedy, Preservation Buffalo Niagara Announce Preserve New York Grant Secured for Historic Preservation of Buffalo’s Old First Ward

In March, Senator Kennedy announced the launch of efforts to secure Historic District designation for Buffalo’s Old First Ward.

Preserve NY grant is major step forward that will allow Old First Ward to conduct full study into neighborhood’s past – which will be used to secure Historic District designation and historic rehab tax credits.

Kennedy: Our ongoing pursuit of Historic District designation for the Old First Ward intertwines with progress at the city’s waterfront and new efforts to make the grain elevators a destination.

Greenpoint Community Environmental Fund Meeting

On September 25, Greenpointers will have the opportunity to learn more about local environmental improvement grants made available through the Greenpoint Community Environmental Fund and how the program is proposed to work. Furthermore, residents will have the opportunity to learn about similar environmental improvement projects, and offer their opinions on how best as a community we can implement similar improvements to Greenpoint.

As the result of a 2010 settlement between New York State and Exxon Mobil, the $19.5 million Fund was created to make new environmental investments in Greenpoint.

Senator Lee Zeldin Urges the Federal Government to Make Mastic Beach a Priority

MASTIC BEACH—In a letter to federal elected officials representing Mastic Beach, Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R,C,I- Shirley) joined other local elected officials today to ask for a project to be expedited to replenish sand dunes on Fire Island just south of the Village of Mastic Beach which were wiped away by Super Storm Sandy.

A copy of the letter, signed by Senator Zeldin, Assemblyman Edward Hennessey, Brookhaven Town Supervisor Edward Romaine, Brookhaven Town Councilman Dan Panico, Suffolk County Legislator Kate Browning, and Mastic Beach Mayor Bill Biondi is attached.

On August 5th, 2013, Senator Lee Zeldin (R, C, I—Shirley) toured the Brookhaven Rail Terminal. Having added two large temporary warehouses and extended rail links, the facility is providing a welcome economic boost to the Long Island economy and job market. The public officials were given the opportunity to see the progress being made at the facility first-hand as Brookhaven Rail Terminal President, Andy Kaufman (not pictured), led the tour.
