Insurance Assistance Program For Residents With Sandy-Related Insurance Issues

On Friday, February 22, 2013 from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM at the Lindenhurst Public Library (1 Lee Avenue, Lindenhurst), Senator Boyle is co-sponsoring a program with the New York State Department of Financial Services (DFS) to help residents needing assistance with Sandy-related insurance issues.The DFS specialists will be available to meet with residents on an individual basis inside the Department’s Mobile Command Center, a 36-foot long vehicle which will be on site at the Lindenhurst Public Library Parking Lot, 1 Lee Avenue, in Lindenhurst, NY 11757.Representatives of DFS will be available to help homeowners, renters and business owners with insurance-related issues stemming from damage caused by Storm Sandy.

Check To See If You Are Entitled To An Unpaid Life Insurance Policy

MORE THAN $665 MILLION IN UNCLAIMED LIFE INSURANCE BENEFITS PAID TO DATE AS A RESULT OF STATE INVESTIGATIONAn investigation started by the Department of Financial Services in July 2011 has resulted in more than $665 million being paid to life insurance beneficiaries who were unaware that they were entitled to money from insurance companies. Before DFS put in place new regulations in 2012, insurance companies did not regularly seek out beneficiaries to pay death benefits, but instead waited for someone to make a claim. However, a significant number of people are not aware that they are named on a life insurance policy by a relative and so do not make a claim.

Governor Cuomo Outlines 2013-2014 Executive Budget to Maintain Fiscal Responsibility and Continue to Invest in Economic Growth

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo unveiled the proposed 2013-14Executive Budget and Management Plan that builds on two years of balanced, fiscally responsible budgeting and invests in economic development, education reform, rebuilding after Superstorm Sandy, provides support to local governments and school districts, and includes no new taxes or fees.

Highlights of the Executive Budget:

· Eliminates $1.3 billion budget gap with no new taxes or fees. The expected gap for 2013-14 was projected to be $17.4 billion prior to the last two responsible budgets.

· Holds spending increases below 2 percent for third consecutive year.

HOPE NOW to Host Free Event for Homeowners in New York Affected by Super Storm Sandy

Over 15 mortgage lenders and 8 insurance companies will be coming to meet with their customers who have been impacted by Sandy this Saturday, December 15. This one-time event is an ideal opportunity for people who are dealing with  double-endorsed insurance payments; insurance payments going directly to the banks;  facing trouble making their mortgage payments because of loss or work and expenses -- some banks are able to lower or stop mortgage payments for up to a year! There will be representatives from the NYS Attorney General, NYS Dept. of Financial Services, FEMA and HUD –approved housing counselors there too.
